She’s probably tired of an ultra-rich computer nerd telling her what she needs to do on every topic under the sun. I know I am and I can’t get within 100 feet of the guy!

She’s an ultra rich computer nerd and very intelligent so my guess is she’s not threatened or annoyed by Bill’s media omnipresence. The timing of this announcement is very odd. Given that their middle child is graduating from HS this month. Seems like they could’ve waited until the summer. Makes me think that they are trying to get ahead of some kind of scandal. 27 years, what’s the rush to wait one more month?

She was probably a millionaire many times over with all her stock options and the like she got as an employee, especially before they went public. Money is not the worry for sure. Other than that, they have their own lives to live and I'm doubting it will change mine, so live and let live.

Odd they don't know that they are free to pay more than they owe, guess that's just somehow escaped them all along...

Divorce allows you to do some clever things with reallocating how certain property, including real estate and stock, is treated tax-wise. The same thing can be true with re-titling after marriage.

Geez, if it's a question of re-titling he should just fork over for a breast augmentation! Way cheaper and more satisfying results.

Not completely sure.(but that is potentially part of it) I'm not a tax guy. I'm also not a divorce attorney.(Just one of those despised investment guys) My guess is that if they are going to be REQUIRED to move $$$$ around for the divorce (selling and or retitling) there COULD be some taxable consequences. Better to start as soon as possible, it could be a LONG process. I would rather have had taxable changes in 2020 than 2021. And in 2021 than in 2022...and so forth. Gotta keep your least favorite Uncle supplied with cash. Especially if He is spending money.

My guess is there is a lock tight pre-nup. Everything will be pretty cut a dry.

I am not sure how a divorce impacts a BVI entity, though.

My guess is there is a lock tight pre-nup. Everything will be pretty cut a dry. Bill and Melinda Gates have no prenup. With nearly $150 billion at stake, they will split their property according to a 'separation contract' they've agreed instead. Bill and Melinda Gates never signed a prenup, according to divorce filings first shared by TMZ. The couple announced their separation Monday. Postnuptial agreements or "separation contracts" operate identically to prenuptial agreements and are usually given more deference in divorce proceedings. It should be remembered that laws generally operate only in the absence of contract.

I find it very difficult to believe that the richest (or one of at the time) men in the world and the son of a lawyer, got married without a prenuptial agreement. WA is a community property state which, in layperson's terms means that everything earned after marriage begun, gets split 50/50, with or without a prenup.* *I'm not a divorce or family law attorney and did NOT stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
