I see Tyler Malone has been assigned to El Paso, the Padres AAA team. I'm surprised. Maybe last year with no official games he developed a lot. It is indeed surprising that he's up to AAA at this point. The newspaper article says " Tyler Malone, Catcher (Taxi Squad) ". I'm unsure of what "Taxi Squad" means. Does it mean he's coming from the taxi squad...or that he's been assigned to it....or what? At any rate the article lists him as a catcher, while the actual 2021 Roster lists him under outfielders. It was known that the Padres were aiming for him at (C) when they drafted him (803rd overall). But in 2019 Rookie League (19 games), he only played Catcher in only one game. He had a pretty tame 2019 OSU season at the plate (.213 BA with 1 HR in 150 AB). Maybe he found his power stroke again like he did in April 2018 (HRs in 5 straight games, I think)....or like in 2018/Omaha: 3 HRs. Minor League baseball - always interesting!

I don't think that Tyler Malone was on the Taxi Squad previously. Maybe? If he is on the Taxi Squad, that means that he can be activated and play in the Majors on a road trip, if someone has to be benched because of coronavirus or exposure to coronavirus. The Taxi Squad has been expanded to five players in 2021 with one having to be a "catcher." If Malone is on the Taxi Squad, that means that he travels with the Padres on all road trips but cannot sit with the team, during the game, to minimize exposure. Taxi Squad players "play" for the AAA team but do not play for the AAA, while the major league team is on the road. It appears that the Padres are adding Nick Kuzia and Tyler Malone to the new five-man Taxi Squad to join the three players that are already on it.

Great reporting (eat your heart out, Canzano).
Christian Chamberlain - Has he been assigned? Brandon Eisert - One of the worlds great mysteries? Bryce Fehmel - Still a Giant? Will McGarry - Assigned by Reds? Beau Philip - Atlanta organization - assigned? Logan Ice ? Others ?

Beau Phillip went 2-4 last night for the Rome Braves Did you mean Alex McGarry....don't know who Will is. Eisert threw 2/3 on an inning last night for the Dunedin Blue Jays. The rest will all in the rookie league in 2019, so who knows if they'll get another shot. I'm assuming Chamberlain will show up somewhere.

Adley tonight, 1 Double, 1 HR and 3 RBI's. Adley Rutschman hitting second, because Buck Britton isn't an idiot. Fun facts: Terrin Vavra (Minnesota '18) led off and played center yesterday. Rutschman drove in Vavra in the seventh. Cadyn Grenier hit sixth and played second. Grenier was 1/3 with a walk. Grenier scored the sixth run in an 8-4 win. Reed Hayes (Vanderbilt '17) was his usual awful self (0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 1 BB). Hayes was 0/3 with two K's in game 2 in 2017. Hayes also started the eighth in game 2. Rutschman singled, Christian Donahue singled and Grenier tripled, which made the final 9-2. Daniel Amaral (UCLA '18) hit second for Altoona and was 3/3 with two walks. Shea Murray (Ohio State '17) pitched the final 1.2 innings for Altoona. He struck out Rutschman in the eighth. Murray was a corner outfielder for Ohio State in 2017 and did not pitch. Murray singled against Tommy Paul in the seventh and subsequently scored the fourth run in the Buckeyes' 6-1 win over the Beavers in Surprise in 2017. That was the Beavers' only loss in the first eight weekends in 2017.

Brandon Eisert just got promoted from low A to high A (Dunedin to Vancouver BC). Vancouver's home games are in Hillsboro this season. So if you can get a ticket, chance to go root for Brandon.

Grenier, 2-4, Adley, 0-5 3Ks, who was it again that someone said can't hit??? One game, one week, heck - one month does not a season make....but as the Bowie Baysox progress into their second week, at this very MOMENT (part way through the 5/13 game) it stands as: Adley BA .207 / OPS .809......Cadyn BA .190 / OPS .470.
