I'm not concerned with who Brian Holsinger recruits, as we shouldn't expect a lot of competition for recruits between the Beavers and the Grizzlies. I would like your thoughts on Katie Faulkner though as the Beavs and Huskies may very likely have interest in some of the same players. In general, I have no problems with the competition for future recruits between the Beavers and Huskies, but I have a question on what may be considered crossing the line. I say that, knowing there are plenty of examples out there in college sports of preceived "poaching'.
If one of our current players contacted Katie asking about the possibility of following her to Washington, how would you expect Katie to react?
If one of our 2022 commits contacted Katie and said they may be interested in Udub, what response would you expect Katie to give?
What if Lily Hansford, offered by the Beavs, but not committed, ended up at Washington?
I may be wrong, but it seems to me that Katie has already been recruiting players to Washington the past week or two. I'm talking about players from Rice who have been in the transfer portal (Nancy Mulkey and Lauren Schwartz), and Rice 2021 committ Jordan Hobbs. Last week I posted that I was scratching my head about Katie and Nancy Mulkey following each other because Nancy is a 6'9" center. It seems much clearer now that the real interest was from Washington, and not Oregon State. Of course I could be wrong, but it doesn't look that way. Katie and Jordan Hobbs started following each other on twitter a few days ago, but Katie started following Jordan on Instagram today. I'm sure SR has known of the Katie to Washington move for quite a while now, and the only reason it has not been announced has been waiting for the contracts to become official, so I'm sure he knows Katie has been working behind the scenes for Washington for some time. I feel confident they have talked about it, and SR is fine with it. I'm even wondering if the twitter following of Endyia Rogers and Katie was more because of interest from Washington instead of Oregon State. We'll probably never know, but I feel pretty sure that SR and Katie talked about these things and that SR gave his blessing.....am I wrong? Would it be fair to the Beavers if Katie was an OSU employee, but already taking steps to help Washington? AAU basketball is happening now, and in the past few days Katie has started following several 2023, 2024, and 2025 players. Is she obligated to share the information she has gathered with Oregon State?
I have a lot of respect for Katie, which is why I am fairly confident her and SR are on the same page on how the last couple weeks have been handled, but I'm curious of what some coaches would consider to be crossing the line in situations similar to this. It's late. I'm getting tired. I'm probably not even making sense.
