Student-athletes are forced to seek academic instruction via the internet. More schools were forced to offer classes online due to pandemic and shutdown of campus. So "moving" does not create the same issues with logistics as was the case prior to 2020. Huh? Nobody was practicing with their teams remotely... I'd think the "college experience" was significantly different though. I could see fewer attachments of various types being formed in a year like this. Between the covid disruptions and the fact that this is the first year players can freely transfer without sitting out, it's ripe for a lot of transfer action. It'll be curious to see if the portal slows up some next year or gets even busier because kids are used to the idea of transferring at will.

I was responding to the comment about keeping an academic schedule and progress towards a degree. Not about practicing with the team. A student-athlete today is expected to keep up academically on a remote basis. Therefore entering the transfer portal would have little to do with academic progress given the actual method of getting class work done.

Looking at a lot of those transfers, seems like many of them would transfer anyway, but normally down to DII so they could play immediately. So it's been a good development for players who are marginal D1 players that really don't belong in DII, but not in the Pac-12 either. There's of course some key pieces moving between teams, but seems like a significant minority in that category on this list.
