Devils take lead in Bottom 8th v. Stanford. If that holds, I believe the Beavs will have a share of 1st place. Not bad for a #@%*?!^!-y team. That's true. If Arizona State wins, Arizona State and Oregon State are tied on top of the Pac-12, a half game ahead of Oregon, Stanford and USC, and one game ahead of Arizona and UCLA.

The "Airplane " vs "Zero Hour" comparison is really good too

Melton had one of the best At Bats of the season. Battled. We don't see much of that. Now as to catching Pop Ups, the first step might be to make sure everyone is wearing a helmet. No, that is what the other team's coach is telling his players.

Unofficial Pac-12 Standings (including tiebreakers): W-L GB1. Arizona State 8-5 ---- 2. Oregon State 8-5 ---- 3. USC 6-4 1/2 4. Stanford 6-4 1/2 5. Oregon 6-4 1/2 6. UCLA 7-6 1 7. Arizona 7-6 1 8. California 5-5 1 1/2 9. Washington State 5-8 3 10. Utah 4-9 4 11. Washington 3-9 4 1/2
Oregon State tied atop the Pac-12 with Arizona State. The Devils hold the tiebreaker right now, but it's early.

Abel just walks far too many hitters. Any runs this inning are on him. He hits them too After 46-2/3 inning pitched, Abel is averaging (a combined) 1.11 ( BB + HPB + WP)....PER INNING !
The rest of the staff is just a bit over half of that (0.6 per inning)

There are no tiebreakers in the baseball standings. Only winning pct determines the leader... gb does not.

There are no tiebreakers in the baseball standings. Only winning pct determines the leader... gb does not. Unless teams are tied at the end of the season. Then head-to-head records are used as a tiebreaker.

The huge Baseball sitting in the middle of the room is KA is having real trouble recovering from his surgery. We don't hear much about his velo and we can see the control issues. His breaking ball and change still can be devastating. I think last night is the first time we saw MC make quick decisions about his Pitchers. Throw strikes or sit down. Get hammered, sit down. You would think we would see more quick action when we still have some really good kids in the BP.

Cal puts the ball in play with RISP. True early in game, but final tally with RISP: Beavs 9-20 (.450).......Cal 3-9 (.333). Weird game. 8th inning....Casey pops up with bases loaded for 2nd out, lead stays narrow ( SQUANDER ?!?) - No Problem, Beavs have Melton (who beats out grounder to 2B) & then Ober to clean things up. plus some other team lost tonight to USC in SoCal. Wasn’t talking about base hits, was talking about productive outs vs strikeouts. We seem to struggle with the concept of sac fly/ hitting behind the runner and excellent as walking dejectedly back to the dugout.

You would think we would see more quick action when we still have some really goo7d kids in the BP. Kevin Abel's arm is fine. The problem with Abel will be resolved this week. He will be pitching on a dirt mound. He will still walk guys and hit guys, but fewer in number, but the biggest thing is that he will not be wild in the zone. Obviously, just my dumb ass opinion, but the one fact: he hates the turf mound. On a second note, the turf mound does help somewhat with the couple of possible rain delays, but the cost cutting from reduced ground crew isn't present as there is still the same grounds crew. Could again be wrong. Finally, when Chin said that Pfennigs would be back and rested-tanned for Omaha, I didn't think he meant that literally.

Abel was amazing against LSU in the Regional and a stud in Omaha. Prior to that, he was very inconsistent. Not much has changed.
