Not a lot of programs interested in back-to-the-basket bigs. Seems like we might have a niche here. Doesn't appear to be as much of a low post, back to the basket guy as his size would indicate seeing Turgeon's comments on him.
Comments about his play style are a little further down the article.
Thanks - interesting choice of words by Turgeon. Even if it's the harsh reality, it doesn't seem like a wise thing to say even privately, let alone publicly. Hopefully Chol finds a way to make those words age like milk.

The fact that a big guy like him has already had leg injuries concerns me. Maybe I'm still traumatized from Greg Oden. Oden? I am still recovering from Sam Bowie I’m still recovering from LaRue Martin.

Oden? I am still recovering from Sam Bowie I’m still recovering from LaRue Martin. Hey without drafting LaRue, the Blazers might never have been so bad that they ended up getting the chance to draft Bill Walton. LaRue was by all rights a nice guy and durable, but he was drafted based on one game Glickman saw him play in college, where for some reason he dominated Walton, who was just starting his college career.

Davis at 17ppg...9.9 apg...6.8 rpg...2.8 stl....team 22-2. Looks pretty elite to me! Saw that...he had 21 assists in one game, if the stats are correct. We're still looking for a point guard, aren't we?

Story does say he played sparingly first season due to leg injuries.. so he's really only had one season of playing.. will see if he can make a leap forward The fact that a big guy like him has already had leg injuries concerns me. Maybe I'm still traumatized from Greg Oden. Yeah, it probably should. They were not insignificant leg issues. He had metal rods inserted into his shins... This is a hope for the best, but don't count on it type of transfer. Not trying to throw any sort of shade on him, but there are a lot of questions about if he can hold up and be as mobile as he needs to be to put on a Kylor Kelly shot blocking act out there.

This is an interesting get if he can stay healthy and continue to build strength. Watching a few videos of him, his 20-ish feet or so shot looks good, he can shoot with his left within 8 or so, he can dribble reasonably well, kinda capable of doing it all against people 6-12 inches shorter than he.
Maryland's coach seemed to indicate it was a strength/toughness issue that kept him on the bench. Coming off essentially 3-4 years of injuries and playing against other big players for the first time, I could see that happening without writing him off. Sounds like he has 3 full years here to develop since this last season was basically a freebie.
I find his height and his wingspan (7'8") interesting and a few of the videos showed him not just blocking shots but catching shots, which I find even interesting-er ("more interesting" for the grammar fans). Silva, Tucker and Andela are basically beefier/bigger than anyone Maryland had for him to practice against, and Calloo has the height and Alitishe the hops to give him a challenge as well. I'm hoping all of those guys stick around for all of their eligible seasons. He may not be a huge contributor this next season but he'll get his work in during practice. This could really pay off if he stays healthy.

Jeff Lamp anyone? Not a big man, but.... jefframp is a big man in my book. In the imitable words of my high school JV basketball coach: "Ramp, you may not be very tall but you sure are slow!"

We're still looking for a point guard, aren't we? I liked his video, but definitely struck me more as a combo guard. Think he can play some point, but not sure you’d want him as the primary there. And as for the stats (especially assists), I wouldn’t put too much belief in the complete accuracy of them. Junior College scorers are known to play a little fast and loose with the official score sheet. All that said Davis should be a very good add, and I’m excited to see him in Beavers uni.

This exactly. Not sure what if anything we get from him, but if he can put his injuries into the past he could be a solid+ contributor.

I don't really like to post stuff like this because I don't like to post negative stuff about the Beavs, but it's what I'm thinking, so...
I really don't get this transfer (Chol Marial). I've been reading that OSU's stock in recruiting circles has sharply risen after the NCAA run. Why are we settling for a guy that so far shows no promise of getting past some pretty serious injuries and may not have the toughnes for the inside? He's got "project" written all over him-and not in a good way! It feels like a desperation get for a team that should be pulling away from desperation moves.
On the other hand, Tinkle has shown pretty good mettle in developing centers and I suspect his judgment is a little better than mine on this issue, so...

He’s Wayne’s long lost son.

Your last paragraph is what my initial reaction of commitment was, and the rest is what I was thinking once I heard he had injury issues. Has Silva announced whether he is taking his extra year? I hope he has and this signing isn’t desperation knowing Silva and Tucker are gone. I’m assuming WT feels good about him being over his injury problems, but with restrictions on visits still being in place I’m not sure how sure you can be. Does seem pretty risky to me, but hopefully WT doesn’t feel that way and it works out.
