It was a year after MLK had been assassinated. One of the most volatile periods in American history, and even a country-bumpkin of a coach in Corvallis, OR should have recognized the importance of the moment with regard to his Black athletes. Minimally, he ought to have attempted to diffuse the situation before it grew out of control. Besides, he was a guy who allowed no facial hair. How could you trust him?! All the best people have beards. I had a buddy in high school who had a beard sophomore year, so he could always get us beer. He was in the best people category! I'm hijacking this thread - freshman year at Oregon State, we had a guy with a full beard, neck, cheeks, the whole works. I hope he doesn't mind his name here, but Bob Wolf from Yreka. He was a hero and spent a lot of money (mostly not his) at the liquor store. His last name added to the mystique.

It was all a misunderstanding. It was taken as a "racial" thing when in fact it was a "being old school" thing that got blown out of proportion and ran with......it actually parallels a lot of the cancel culture stuff we see today......Andros and Milton were friends later on after all this. I’ll take things that White people say for $200, Alex. Seriously? You do realize that is not just my opinion, right? Oh but I forgot, since I'm a white, cis gender, heterosexual, male, I can't say anything about anything anymore, right? I'm the oppressor....sorry, I forgot.

How about this:
Oregon State football has had four 6+ game winning streaks against Division 1 competition in the past 25 years: 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2013.
Oregon State basketball has had four 6+ game winning streaks against Division 1 competition in the past 25 years: 2004-05, 2017, 2019 and 2021.
Oregon State baseball has had 6+ game winning streaks in 19 of the past 25 years: 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
Winning streaks of 6+ games against teams with winning records in the past 25 years:
Football: Never. Since Terry Baker graduated after the 1962 season, the record is four in a five-week period in 2012: Wisconsin, @ UCLA, @ Arizona and @ BYU. (Washington State was between Arizona and BYU, but the Cougars finished 3-9 in 2012.)
Basketball: 2021.
Baseball: 2005 (twice), 2007 (twice), 2010, 2011 (twice), 2017 (twice), 2018 and 2019.
It is interesting to note that 2006 Oregon State baseball never beat six consecutive teams with a winning record. Oregon State beat Arizona State in Tempe, swept Washington State at Pullman and beat UCLA in Corvallis. The Beavers then lost to UCLA in Corvallis before beating Wright State, Kansas and Hawai'i in the Corvallis Regional and Stanford twice in the Corvallis Super Regional. Oregon State then lost to Miami; beat Georgia, Miami and Rice (twice); lost to North Carolina; and beat North Carolina (twice) for the National Championship.
Winning streaks of 6+ games against Tournament teams in the past 25 years:
Basketball: 2021.
Baseball: 2007, 2011, 2017 (twice), 2018 and 2019.
2007's winning streak was the final 10 games with wins against Rutgers and Virginia (twice) in Charlottesville; two wins against Michigan in Corvallis; and wins against Cal State Fullerton, Arizona State, UC Irvine and North Carolina (twice) in Omaha.
2011's winning streak was two wins against Arizona in Tucson, a sweep of Arizona State in Corvallis and a sweep of Stanford at Sunken Diamond. The 2011 Beavers looked shoe-ins for a National Seed before losing a home series to eighth-place USC and getting swept by ninth-place Oregon. All six Pac-10 teams played in regional championship games with four winning, Arizona lost the College Station Regional by three. Texas A&M wound up going to Omaha and being eliminated by California by four. The Bears were the only Pac-10 team to make it to Omaha, Arizona State was eliminated by two in Austin, Oregon State was eliminated by six in Nashville and Stanford was eliminated by two in Chapel Hill.
2017's first winning streak was the first 23-game winning streak. Seven of those 23 wins came against Tournament teams: a win against Nebraska in Surprise, a sweep of Arizona in Corvallis and a sweep of Stanford at Sunken Diamond.
2017's second winning streak was the second 23-game winning streak. Only the final seven wins, though, were against Tournament teams: the wins against Holy Cross and Yale (twice) in the Corvallis Regional, the two Corvallis Super Regional wins against Vanderbilt, the 6-5 win over Cal State Fullerton and the 13-1 win over LSU.
2018's winning streak was a part of the season-opening 13-game winning streak. Oregon State beat Gonzaga and Ohio State (twice) in Surprise and swept Hartford in Corvallis.
2019's winning streak was a part of the season-opening 10-game winning streak. The final six games were a sweep of Big Ten Champion Nebraska in Surprise and two wins against Big Twelve Champion West Virginia in Corvallis.
In my opinion, there is only really an argument between 2007 baseball and 2021 basketball. For my money, I found the six wins in 2021 more enjoyable than the 10 wins in 2007, arguably the best run in any men's sport in the past 30 years.

The other thing is when has Oregon State beat six consecutive top 64 teams, when the Beavers were underdogs in six consecutive games?
ESPN's BPI odds: UCLA 24.3% Oregon 23.2% Colorado 14.8% Tennessee 14.5% Oklahoma State 27.5% Loyola-Chicago 19.4%
The odds of Oregon State beating all six teams in a row was roughly 1 out of 15,493.
Looking at the final three games alone, Oregon State was at least a six-point dog in each game (+8.5 against Tennessee, +6 against Oklahoma State and +7 against Loyola-Chicago). The Beavers are the first team in the Tournament in at least 36 years to win three consecutive games in which they were 6+ point dogs.
I mean that is all just crazy. You may never see a run like that again in your entire life. And for it to be Oregon State doing it. I think that is something that we should all be really excited about.

Game time is unique to itself but we all like to make comparisons to previous teams and this provides a more in-depth look at it

You are unlikely to see a run like that from any team again, much less Oregon State.

Those odds were ridiculous. Oregon State was a team that got better (by a lot) over the 2nd half of the season. The public never caught on. Every year, there are teams that do this. OSU is an extreme example but it's not historical. As a bettor, it's difficult to find these teams because there are about 355 D-1 teams. I was lucky this year because as an OSU fan, I was paying attention. For games two through five in the list, the reality was OSU was at worst a pick-em.

There's just a difference between most unlikely moment and favorite Beaver moment for some people.

That run was something I dreamed about seeing OSU do since I was a kid in the late 80s. Having it happen was an absolute dream come true. To have it also be so unexpected made it more magical.
They way they played made it incredibly stressful as well - getting leads early and just consistently holding off runs. It could have ended so many times with just a brief collapse, and it just didn’t happen until the run was really deep. To just keep it going when +85% of the other teams that were largely more talented had already flamed out was just hard to fathom at the time, and even more astounding in retrospect.
