How exhausting is it for a guy like Claunch to catch every game? Seems like in the past, PC would frequently rotate in another catcher.
Claunch didn’t have a good series. Could this due to the day-to-day demand of catching? Should MC be working in another catcher and giving Claunch a break?

I was wondering if this was true. Can’t seem to get stats for older games to load on my iPad. So you don’t think Claunch is tired? Or it was just a poor series for him?

Tired? The kid I like 20 years old. He should be able to play series after series and still be fresh. Play three games and have four of days to recoup. Bad series? Have you forgotten that baseball is really hard? He will have great at bats and poor at bats. Nature of the game.

As far as Casey and his catchers, Logan Ice talked about his dead legs in interviews during his last 2 seasons. Ice caught a lot of games, and his bat definitely cooled off. Logan was definitely a defensive catcher anyway.

From my limited experience, high school football, baseball, basketball and small college baseball and basketball (as well as recreational golf and skiing), I have always felt that successfully hitting a baseball was the hardest thing to do well. Agree or disagree?

Claunch seems to be slow to 2 Nd base. Hate seeing Teams running in us.

Seems like they rested Adley when the competition level was expected to be lower. He played quite a bit of first base when not behind the plate ... cannot keep a guy like that out of the lineup ! As far as Claunch and , also Ober , they just seem to be going through a stretch where they are trying to do too much and are not hitting situationally ! Every swing is a big, loopy swing with quite a bit of head movement ! Same thing seems to have hit McMahon and, to a lesser extent, Armstrong . Preston seems to bring a different level of focus when he has two strikes on him. Melton, so far, has been on every pitch and, a little unorthodox, seems to always put the ball in play . The second baseman looks good at the plate too , and has some potential power ! Hope we get the hitting to the same level as the pitching !

Have you forgotten that baseball is really hard? He will have great at bats and poor at bats. Nature of the game. Never played catcher, so that's why I was asking. He didn't get a single hit in the BYU series, which is unusual. This is another reason I asked. There were a lot of passed balls as well...more than I'm used to seeing with the Beaver catchers. As for forgetting that baseball is really hard, I think you have a point. Yeah, I was thinking it's an easy game. Gosh, they just toss a ball around a bit. No big deal. Anybody can do it.

You may be correct, but that isn't the point. If it were just hitting, then sure. But it seemed like quite a few pitches are getting away from him, too. Maybe he's tired. Maybe it's the cold. Maybe it was just a tough series. Maybe it's just the nature of the game. Maybe I was spoiled watching Logan Ice and Adley catch. Maybe some combo of all of this. But I've never been a catcher and never tried to play baseball at this level, so I was asking for insight.

Hamilton hurt his hand against GCU so is only available in an emergency situation. 3rd catcher Logan is also out for a bit so Claunch for the time being is really the only option we have at catcher. I am sure it is tiring him out a bit and taking a toll on him offensively. Catching is an extremely demanding position

(you’re welcome ) We've been spoiled rotten for the last 16 years by the people we've had behind the plate - Canham, Susac, Rodriq, Ice, Adley - all drafted with Susac making it to the Show, and Adley there by the end of this season.

Claunch is 22, an occasional day off or as the DH should be sufficient. Any break is as much mental fatigue as physical. Five or six years from now is a different story. Catchers need to have sturdy joints - ankles, knees and hips.
Defensively, Troy is considered a sound college catcher. His glovework lags a little behind his throwing arm/accuracy and POP time grades. More quickness than linear speed. Intelligent and good baseball I.Q. Considered a MLB Draft pick. As a hitter, we have a fairly good sample size to look at.
2016 As a Junior at Vacaville HS in California, Troy hit .316 2017 As a Senior at VHS, Troy hit .318 2018 As a Freshman at OSU, Troy hit .321 2019 As a Sophomore at OSU, Troy hit .264 2020 As a Junior at OSU, Troy hit.244 2021 As a Senior (or Covid Jr.) at OSU, Troy is hitting .310
Judgement Day - OSU Career to Date: In his OSU career through the BYU series, Troy is 52-187 and a .278 BA More importantly, his slash line is .278/ .381/ .422 His K to BB ratio is 1.7:1 His K frequency is every 4.19 Plate Apperances. Analytically, he is the ideal #5 or #6 hitter in a college batting order.
