Not that it mattered much, but anyone else notice Brink shoots her first three of the game up by almost 30 w a few minutes left? Not even sure why she’d even be in at that point. A few other starters were still in and bombing away too. I guess ol’ Tara isn’t quite as disciplined in her old age Brink played 30 minutes last night. Goodman played 36 minutes (and had a -33 point differential when she was on the floor). When the game was essentially over at the end of the third quarter, Rueck could have sat Goodman and limited her minutes. It isn't Tara's responsibility to stop her own team. Stanford is a very disciplined team on both ends of the floor and Tara should receive primary credit for that. I was actually pretty frustrated that we still had our starters in with a few minutes to go and down 20+. Rueck was definitely very slow to get the end of the bench some minutes in a game that was well out of reach.

Tara knows how important Brink is to their team on both ends, but especially the defensive end. Prechtel, Belibi, and Jerome are all a step below Beink defensively. She only played 15 minutes in their last game against OSU.
This was just the second time she went for over 30 minutes.

A few other starters were still in and bombing away too. I guess ol’ Tara isn’t quite as disciplined in her old age I’m never offended by the other team trying to score points in a 40 minute basketball game. Unless it’s on the last possession with the game in hand. In my mind it would be more disrespectful for them to intentionally coast on us. I believe Brinks a three pointer came with five + minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Stanford wanted to run up the score to maintain or improve their NET rating, approximately half of which is essentially based on margin of victory (that is, offensive efficiency minus defensive efficiency). They are currently #1 in NET but they may feel as if they are neck-and-neck with #2 UConn (NCAA does not provide the NET formula or exact numbers, just rankings, so no one can be sure). I'm almost certain that there are no diminishing returns for very large margins of victory, so the bigger the blowout the better. Plus they were playing a good team on a neutral court which made last night's blowout even more valuable for NET purposes. And yes, Vanderveer would want her team to run up the score on the last possession as well. In their first game vs. Cal, Stanford got a defensive rebound with 20 seconds to go while up by 47 and rushed down the court, ran a play and tried to score again. I looked at Vanderveer and she made no motion to call off her team. Thankfully Cal stopped them and went the other way to score to cut the final margin to 43. I rarely watch the end of blowouts but it wouldn't surprise me if Vanderveer (as well as other coaches of that character) has done something similar at the end of other blowouts now that NET is in play. Of course, the reverse is true and losing coaches concerned with seeding have an incentive to limit the margin of loss as well. No one wants to keep their starters in for the sole purpose of limiting a blowout, so coaches with mutual respect will usually take cues from each other (you call off your team and I'll call off mine). You can decide for yourself if mutual respect was in play last night.

Tara has a longstanding reputation of not running up the score on overmatched opponents. She has a very deep bench this season with numerous players who would be starting for Oregon State if they had chosen to play for the Beavs.
The Cardinal will be a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney and don't need to enhance their NET ranking by running up the score. I don't believe that they did so last night. Stanford was simply way better than OSU during the final 30 minutes of the game. They have a deeper and more athletic roster at virtually every position.
Credit to OSU for its stretch run during the regular season and for taking care of business during the first two games of the PAC-12 Tournament in order to give Beaver Nation an opportunity to watch the Beavs compete in another March Madness.

Scott didn’t seem perturbed in his post game comments. Lots of credit/kudos given to Stanford and Tara.

The game last night made clear what many of us have been saying since October: This year's Stanford team is absolutely loaded with talent - at least 8 or 9 deep. They are well coached and they have an established and entrenched basketball culture that their program honors and follows....
I wrote about a month ago something that I thought was true then, and I believe it is true now....This year's Stanford roster, divided into two teams, would place 1st and 4th in the Pac-12. No way to prove it, obviously, but that's how I see it.....
I hope they have a great run in the Playoffs this year.... GO BEAVS!!

Was there any OSU family allowed to watch in person? Stanford obviously had several?

Does anybody realize what Stanford's front line will be next year. 6'7 Laura Betts has signed with Stanford.so they can go Betts 6'7 and Brink 6'6. That's going to be interesting to see.

Betts is a 2022, so she won't be there next year. They add Kiki Iriafen next season, a 6-2/3 forward who is really athletic. Stanford lists Brink at 6-4, but she surely seems closer to 6-5 (maybe just her long arms). Betts is a lot taller than Brink, but she doesn't get up and down as well as Brink.

I would have liked us to take the early open shot instead of dribbling. Their defense is so quick and fast that they are able to adjust and recover. Fatigue was a major factor we had to overcome and couldn't. Two fouls on Jones really added to the problem. It still was a good run and I am proud of their rebounding after the pauses.

OSU's "game" is going to have to improve a lot next season to have any remote chance of beating Stanford. I don't fully understand how Oregon kept both their games with Stanford close, but the Beavers could not, yet the Beavers beat Oregon 2 out 3 times this season.
Also, is there any post-game press conference with Rueck? I keep googling, but can't find one.

Stanford often lost focus in games when they had big leads this year. The final score is still what it is, but my point is Stanford ran out to comfortable leads against Oregon as well.
