I wasn't the 10K's or the wicked wrap on the 12-6 breaking pitch, it was when our Stud loaded them up with nobody out and had the GCU bench excited.
What transpired was an old fashioned "gut check" - Kevin bowed his neck, set his jaw and proceded to puch a couple out and end the inning unscathed. That made every scouting report submitted last night - how does he handle adversity? Does he maintain his composure?
More than one MLB Scout p'd his pants watching that performance.
If you didn't know Kevin Abel is a Warrior, you know it now.

Agreed , looked like he was playing with his pitches in different count/ hitter situations . But, anytime he needed to throw a strike or get past a hitter - he could paint the corners or run a fastball by them ! Very impression - because he is in mid season form after 11 innings !

He is insanely clutch and I'm glad we get to see him in a Beaver uniform one last year.

With this staff, our WAR is +7, and with the bats our WAR is +7. There isn't a staff better set up for Omaha than the Beavers. Early sample size is offset by shear arms available in the pen. IMO, we will be one of 8 left standing come June.

My question is are the opposing pictures really that good. I know Kansas was, but the starters for the rest are they truly equal to the pac 12 Starters? The Beavs are being stopped until we get into the other teams bull pen, can we expect that for the conference? So far I'm enjoying the games and loving the outcome.

Pretty sure he was up 0-2 on both guys he plunked.....crazy.
Funny thing is, it wasn't that surprising that he struck out the side with the bases juiced. I mean you kind of expect it, right? Some guys you know are screwed when they get to that point......but Abel is just straight up dirty......dirty stuff, and ice water in his veins.

At least he isn't KRod - that kid would walk the bases full just so he could strike the next 3 guys out - bringing him in relief was a true adventure, almost like Mad Max (the pitcher for OSU) on steroids, metaphorically speaking. I remember one game, 9th inning, I am standing down by the OSU bullpen as KRod loads the bases in the 9th on three straight walks in a must win situation. All the players down there are standing on the line just asking each other what the heck is he doing, or words to that effect Then he strikes out the side. I much prefer the efficiency of our bullpen.

We have to remember that GCU was picked to win the WAC, and Colato is the pre-season WAC player of the year. They swept their conf awards week one. Their first two starters and main relief guy are Pac12 caliber all the way. They are VERY good defensively and you can tell that they are well coached.....imo, this is a very big road series win that will look better, and better, as the season goes on....they play Ok st, there next weekend....be interesting one for sure. That said, things will prolly tighten up even more as we get into conference.....that's usually how it goes, as you know. From my mostly untrained eye this team is quite a bit better in all facets than the '19 and '20 squads. Not seeing the non-competitive AB's. We are a scrappy team that does a lot of damage with two outs..... reminiscent of some of our best teams of the past. The defense is finely tuned. We have arguably our deepest pitching staff ever!
