4 games is such a small sample size, but UCLA is perhaps the only other squad in the Pac that can give the Beavs a run in the pitching depth, and they sure aren't hitting the ball at all. I suddenly like our chances to finish in the top 3 and maybe take the conference.

Missouri finished #10 in the SEC in 2019.
Grand Canyon had their best-ever season in 2019, losing the WAC Championship Game 5-4 to Sacramento State. That same Sacramento State team went on to eliminate Andrew Checketts' UCSB in the Stanford Regional 6-4 before bowing out to Stanford.
Grand Canyon will present a challenge, especially at home.

Looks like just what it is ! Massey looks at 3-4 games and they say they need to tighten up on their original thinking ! Don't know how this one is calculated maybe as simple as wins and losses and margin of victory , based on home and away Everyone knows that baseball is a game of streaks... so, at this point, the stack rankings - after last weekend , are just a blip on the radar screen ! Would, however, like to see this situation play out over the entire season !

Out of curiosity, just looked up their 'approach'. A true mathematical model based on outcomes - so it may have it's flaws - but, may smooth out over the long term 50-60 games , and give a good picture of the relative strength of each team ! Massey is apparently a math professor !

We all had questions going into the first weekend of games about which Beaver team would show up. We knew that we are stacked with pitchers, and that showed. Even the new faces put up some quality numbers. But we weren’t sure what the bats would be like. And we found out, didn’t we! The rest now is coaching...keeping the team positive and getting them to believe in themselves.
I could see this team leap up to the top pretty quickly if everything continues this way. Go Beavs!

A good portion of the coaching has already taken place be it recruiting or player development. On the recruiting end of things, a couple examples of great finds...Chase Watkins and Bryant Salgado. They amongst others were pretty impressive. When it comes to player development, Armstrong, P Jones and Casey are studs, at least for now. This team is talented and it is deep. The expanded roster and the extra year of eligibility helped us a bunch. One of the intriguing questions right now is, how much did it help the competition?

Too early to get much out of it right now.....this coming series sounds like a good test for the Beavs

We need to take 3 of 4 or sweep to keep ourselves moving in the right direction.....and this is their world series.....they take down the mighty Beavs and it's big time for their program. Good thing is, with our pitching depth we are built for a 4 game series.....not sure about their pitching

Good thing is, with our pitching depth we are built for a 4 game series.....not sure about their pitching Well if they took 3 of 4 from Missouri, that has to say a bit about their pitching depth. Grand Canyon put up a lot of runs against Missouri - which is picked to finish 13th out of 14 teams in the SEC if the coaches preseason pole is accurate. Missouri is playing in a stacked Eastern division with Vandy, Florida (picked to be #1 in the conference with a bullet) and Tennessee. Now of course 11 of the SEC teams out of 14 are ranked in the top 25 to start the season, so I guess you have to be really bad not to be there After their 3-1 start, the Beavs are at 22 in the RPI, Grand Canyon is 127. Not that this means anything right now, UCLA dropped to 76th, the Beavs lead the conference and the Pac-12 is all the way down to 17th after starting out at #4. Beavs are at (the others receiving votes spot), #41 now in the coaches poll.

Beavs are at (the others receiving votes spot), #41 now in the coaches poll. Grand Canyon was picked #1 in the WAC in a three-way tie with Sacramento State and UTRGV. The WAC released its own preseason All-WAC team . The WAC preseason Player of the Year was Juan Colato, Grand Canyon's second baseman. One of the three starting pitchers of the year was Pierson Ohl. The closer of the year was Frankie Scalzo. Grand Canyon had both the WAC hitter and pitcher of the week for the first weekend. Freshman Ryland Zaborowski won hitter of the week and Senior Zach Barnes won pitcher of the week. Barnes is their ace. He started game one. He threw six innings of two-hit ball with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Missouri could not touch Barnes or the first relief pitcher, Coen Wynn. Wynn left with the score 11-0 Grand Canyon. Missouri scored three runs over the final two innings against freshman Connor Markle, which made the game look like less of a rout than it really was. Colato led off and went 1/4 with a run. He hit an infield single and was caught stealing. He scored after being hit by a pitch in the eight-run sixth. None of his balls made it out of the infield. The team was led by the three outfielders Brock Burton, Zaborowski and Tayler Aguilar. The three hit 4-5-6 in the lineup and went a combined 8/12 with 6 runs, 7 RBIs, 1 triple (Zaborowski) and 1 home run (Aguilar). Ohl started game two and threw 5 2/3 innings of three-run ball. He gave up six hits and two walks against six strikeouts. Colato was 0/4 with a walk, scoring after being walked home in a three-run fourth. Burton, Zaborowski and Aguilar hit 4-5-7 and went 6/10 with 3 runs, 4 RBIs, two doubles (Burton and Aguilar) and 1 home run (Zaborowski). Game two was 6-1 into the sixth before Missouri hit a two-run home run to chase Ohl. Zaborowski drove in Burton to go back up 7-3. Missouri got a run back in the seventh on a sac fly. Aguilar led off the bottom half with a double and scored to make it 8-4. Jack Schneider started game three and went 4 1/3 with 4 runs (3 earned). He gave up six hits and three walks against only two strikeouts. Missouri went up 3-0 in the second. In the bottom half, Colato hit a bases clearing double to tie the game. In the third, Aguilar led off the inning with a walk. He scored after two more base hits. Another run was scored on a squeeze play later in the inning to put Grand Canyon up 5-3. Schneider was pulled after hitting the leadoff batter and giving up a double. The lead runner scored to pull Missouri within one. The Tigers took the lead on a three-run shot in the sixth. Missouri added an unearned run in the eighth after a bad throw by the first baseman. Colato hit a two-run shot to pull within one but only managed one hit over the remainder of the game in the loss. Freshman Carter Young started game four. Young gave up two runs on four hits and a walk against three strikeouts in five innings. Grand Canyon moved Zaborowski up to third and hit Burton fifth. Aguilar did not start against Missouri's lefty. Colato reached on a throwing error. Zaborowski singled Colato to third. Colato was then balked home. Freshman Tyler Wilson, who started against the lefty, drove Zaborowski home to put Grand Canyon up 2-0. Grand Canyon extended the lead to 3-0 on a three walks and a hit by pitch in five hitters. Missouri's Drew Garrett took the mound in the fourth. He led off the inning, giving up a single and then issued a walk to Colato, Garrett then threw a bunt into right, which allowed a run to score and put two runners in scoring position. Colato then scored on a Garrett wild pitch. Another run was scored on an error by the catcher before Missouri pulled Garrett, who never did manage to notch an out. Young gave up a double and home run to start the fifth but recovered to get the next three hitters. Zaborowski led off the sixth with a single, was moved to third on a subsequent single and and scored on a subsequent double. With a righty in, Aguilar then came in to pinch hit and cleared the bases with a single to put Grand Canyon up 9-2. Missouri committed three errors, walked eight batters and hit four other batters. Scalzo, who had not pitched all weekend came in in the ninth. He gave up two singles to start the frame to put runners on the corner. He then gave up a sacrifice fly to create the final 10-3 score. In the end, Zaborowski had multiple hits in each of the four games, finishing 9/16 with 5 runs and 5 RBIs with a triple and a home run. Zaborowski also had four walks and only struck out three times. Zaborowski's moonshot in game two cleared both the palm trees and 35th Avenue in left and is described is supposedly "viral" on twitter. Grand Canyon finished the weekend scoring 36 runs (33 earned). The Lopes only committed three errors. Grand Canyon finished with a 35-13 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Missouri finished the weekend scoring 19 runs (17 earned). The Tigers committed six errors. Missouri finished with a 33-17 walk-to-strikeout ratio. Ultimately, Grand Canyon scored 17 more runs on only seven more hits.

Coen Wynne threw another three innings. The other 8 pitchers combined to throw 12 innings.
