High level pitching from both teams highlighted by the marquee matchup of Wicks and Abel. Kevin was excellent, his velo was up and his stuff was nasty. He'll have better command as we go forward in the season, the four free passes today were the only real glitch in his 4 2/3 innings of work. He was on an 80 pitch count today which indicates confidence in the condition of his arm. Half the teams in MLB have Wicks slotted at #2 or #3 behing Kumar Rocker for college pitchers in the '21 draft this June. Wicks has full command of 4 pitches, touching 95 with his fastball and throwing arguably, the best chang in college baseball. Our hitters took a peek at that today. He went 7 full, had a 102 count, walked 2, fanned 10 and was threatened only once in the 2nd inning. He threw a 7 inning shutout scattering 3 Beaver singles. I don't see a pitcher in our Conference that can match this guy. Probably the best guy we'll see until we get to Omaha. Asymetrical stats today. KSU sent 38 guys to the plate today courtesy of 7 base on balls, 2 hit batsmen, and 2 fielding errors. They had 11 baserunners and 2 stolen bases. We sent 35 batters to the plate with 6 base hits and 2 walks. OBP tells the story, KSU's OBP was .307, ours was .228. With the +3 baserunner total, they had an opportunity to plate that one extra run that won the game for them. A new day tomorrow.
