Yes, we wouldn’t want a Jimmy Anderson situation and win the league in his first year. That would suck. Anderson used Millers recruits that year. Abel, Mullholand, Verburg, Casey, Jones, Claunch....etc. were Casey recruits. What’s your point?

Extremely odd to measure this team’s offensive ability considering they faced likely the best starting pitcher they’ll see all year. Also, bases loaded/no outs is NOT a sac bunt situation. Criticizing the walks allowed/fielding errors is probably legitimate. It is Sac fly situation however. And they got two Ks.

It’s a put the ball in play situation....Ks are so unproductive....sac fly, ground ball score a run if not right back to the pitcher....

I read somewhere that Wicks topped out at 95 mph with his FB today.....Does anyone know what Abel topped out with his FB?....I seem to recall Abel sitting at mostly 91-92 mph with his FB in the CWS when we last saw him.....and supposedly his stuff is even better now after his TJ surgery. Did the FloTV broadcast show the radar gun reading for each pitch or not?

It was a wake up call for what to expect when conference play rolls around on Fridays, or for the case of UCLA, every day. This season and next season will sting offensively, as the program is recovering from the, 'who will be the coach going forward' phase. I expect they will recover in 2-3 years, then we'll see some serious bats.
One poster earlier said it best, this year (and I'm going to say next year as well) are going to be what I'll call the purgatory years during Coach Casey's post-national arrival period. 2008-2012, 2015, 2016. It shouldn't be a surprise that after the 2017 and 2018 CWS run, the team has a few lean years that follows, especially when a coaching change is involved.
Either way, I'm sure we'll see the fruits from Canham for this program around the time him, and many others, are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the first two national titles.
