Why? we are very transfer heavy, and have very few schollies to give. Any big name we would otherwise promote are transfers for the most part. This is just a weird year because so many otherwise ineligible to return players are coming back. We will have plenty of scholarships to offer if we find a player who upgrades our roster. We have lost 13 players since November who could have returned in 2021. That number could reach 20 by August. There will be more defections guaranteed. We are still looking before August in the portal to upgrade this roster. More players will be added to the portal after spring drills. Not sure what you mean, Coach Smith said we have "not very many scholarships". I have a number that I believe is accurate. It is 6 at this point in time, but always changing. I would guess that Coach Smith will use 2 scholarships for deserving walkons. That means we expect 4 more transfers. That number will probably increase, but we do not know for sure.

Well, blackbug, my numbers are similar to your numbers, but if qbeaver says anything, it happens. I have doubted q before, but he is always on the money.

I heard his interview. Have just heard there are several who have interest in moving on. Plus, will Whittley with his heart condition and Gumbs not staying healthy consider retirement from football if they can't be cleared or healthy? Morris just did...Look at the depth chart and there are some obvious attrition up ahead by August. Revisit this post, and you might be surprised. Jonathan also gave the impression we covered all our bases in this class. I don't believe we are finished adding interior defensive linemen. We need one...probably two b4 the 2021 season. Just my opinion...

This is the first year players can transfer with no penalty. There are many reason why kids leave...Not a great fit, want to be closer to home, not playing enough, coaching change and better scheme fit, etc. Athletes want to play and have a chance to show for the NFL too. It's a great opportunity for athletes to have freedom to play where they want.

Just my opinion... I think we are basically stating the same thing. I could see 5 more spots open for scholarships, but I doubt more. I know the staff is trying hard to get ~2 defensive tackles in the transfer portal. 2 of the 6/7 available scholarships are basically earmarked for defensive tackles. With how little turnover there has been I doubt it will be dramatically more. We can expect ~5 more to transfer in, probably not much more. I doubt the staff will find anymore high school recruits this year.
By the way, Whittley is a senior so whether he stays or leaves it does not change scholarships available. If he retires no scholarship becomes available. Therefore I hope he continues on as he does not count against the numbers and could provide a benefit on the field.
On the flip side, as far as I know if we get a super senior transfer, like Whittley, then I think it becomes a scholarship that does not count against the numbers. Eijah Jones probably fits under this rule, so we may actually have 7 scholarships available if this is true.

I hope it works out but it seems weird to save ~5 scholarships for transfers.
