He is a great coach! Possibly landing at CAL
An Oregon State grad, Heyward spent 12 seasons coaching in the Pac-12 and had 21 players drafted, including five in the first round and three in the second round.

It would suck to have to wear duck gear to have a job.

Taking the same position at Cal. Co-DC. Coach swap. Weird.

Taking the same position at Cal. Co-DC. Coach swap. Weird. Reading between the lines, I'd say that DeRuyter got full control of the DC position at Oregon and Keith was being effectively demoted. Just my opinion.

Beat it! That seems hard to believe. He’s one of their better recruiters. That’s why they gave him the Co-DC title, so they could justify paying him more. I think he just got really pissed off that he didn’t get the DC job.

The more likely and less exciting scenario is that KHJ was never going to be a DC without expanding his experience beyond the defensive backfield. He may have been told that by UO as to why he would not be DC. By going to Cal he expands his coaching knowledge to LBs, making him a more qualified candidate to get a DC job in the future. Sometimes people take lateral career moves to better prepare them for the next level.

I know deruyter is being brought in as the DC but I like the way Fresno state went when he was head coach. Here is hoping he brings more of that to the ucks.

I don’t know much about him other than from Fresneck but it seemed like an odd choice. I actually thought they let the best coach of the three (Leavitt) go.

Leavitt just left Florida Atlantic as DC after one year to become DC at SMU under Sonny Dykes. He knows his stuff.

I remember Coach Riley gave Heyward his start in coaching as a GA at Oregon State which propelled him into a good career. I believe Keith was selling cars before that GA stint ( I could be wrong). Riley had recruited him as a player and then began his coaching career. It bothered me when Heyward left OSU years later to go to UW for a pay raise. I wonder if we were given the chance to match. Hayward known as an absolute top level recruiter.
