Does anybody know why the State Rep. from Monmouth introduced a bill to separate OSU Cascades from OSU? I figure the guy couldn't think of anything else so he came up with this.
OSU doesn't want the separation. OSU-Cascades doesn't want the split. Cascades would still be a one cabin school if Dr. Ray hadn't pushed hard and continuously.
The Bend Bulletin didn't have any real info, but the duckers that own and run the rag sound excited.

Good luck getting someone to answer the phone. Before that they were Johnny on the spot.

The local, minority ownership has some ties that I identify as ducker. Of course, the long term owners who sold were duckers. Good people, but duckers.

This is going to end up being a complete waste of taxpayers money.

This is going to end up being a complete waste of taxpayers money. One might think a State Rep from Monmouth would be more focused on the needs of the University in their own home town. But maybe that’s it? Folks at WOU may be in his ear to separate OSU Cascades from OSU and make the growing Bend Campus less able to compete for State project funding against WOU.

You pretty much nailed it. Cascades has the small school advantages combined with the resources of a large scale, research university. Yep. You heard it right. Too good of educational opportunity. My take anyway. ktvz.com/videos/2021/01/15/lawmaker-explains-osu-cascades-legislation/

As a final note, The Bulletin published a good editorial in support of OSU-Cascades. It essentially said the bill was introduced because Cascades is too good of school for the competition because of the OSU tie. Ill-advised bill, but the Rep. was being supportive of his local constituents. Understood all along, but still a terrible approach to the Western Oregon problem.

Bend > Monmouth. And it's not even close. Hey at least Monmouth is not still a dry town. They have both beer & wine now!

Bend > Monmouth. And it's not even close. Hey at least Monmouth is not still a dry town. They have both beer & wine now! People in Monmouth retire to Bend, not the other way around. Maybe that is the problem
