My wife is an alum of tOSU. Generally, we would have hung a banner or two in front of the house, and we would have been psyched for the game. But not this year. Just seemed sort of pointless.
Oh well. There’s always next year.

"....................The atmosphere is really what makes college football college football. Without it, unless you have a rooting interest, it can be very dull................." (Credited to Wilky). Exactly. I most definitely found other things to do, this past season. Of course, I've been in Parker/Reser when it's been very dull WITH fans....... Amen? Amen.

Seems to me that the NCAA keeps shooting itself in the foot by having the game at 8pm (EST) on a Monday night. Ridiculous. And while the playoff are interesting, they haven't really changed the field at all. So it's really like it was before when they'd just choose the top two to play. But honestly, I think Covid had a lot to do with it. It has been a messed up year, and it's hard to care about a championship game in a year with an asterisk.Agreed. In fact, I have a really close friend who (blasphemy) is a life-long duck. I don't think he even watched their bowl game which was pretty surprising to me, but he said just didn't seem legit between COVID (and the way they got there to begin with). Said he tried to get excited for it, but just couldn't... Sounds very duck fan-ish to me.....

That's the type of rational thinking that has allowed us to remain friends after all these years. I don't think he says the word "natty" either, so that's a bonus. There's hope in this world.

An "ugly" American story - wife and I were on a cruise to Alaska with some friends, last port of call Victoria BC. I was roaming the downtown and stopped at a great bar with dozens of wonderful local microbrews on tap. I'd decided to get some canadian cash to blend in a bit, and ordered a tasty regional. Then a couple came in, sat down beside me at the bar, slapped down an American 20, and ordered Coors light. I was so embarrassed for them.

I guess if the Beavs make a bowl, no matter how, I'm watching. ducks fans are spoiled....that's all. An interesting social experiment in the state of Oregon...I don't really have any ducks as close friends.....lots of Beavs......disclaimer, I'm from EO, and I'm big time into the outdoors

It's all about knowing your audience I guess. But maybe that couple was on vacation and the beer they like is actually Coors Light. They were looking to enjoy themselves, just like you, so they ordered what they liked. Should they have ordered a microbrew that they didn't like, and choke it down just to avoid looking like "ugly" Americans? While there's no way to tell, I would bet that they didn't mock you, or be embarrassed for you because you were trying to look and act like a Canadian. I think that's kind of weird, but then again, if I were there, I would have ordered a Bud. I wouldn't have thought a thing about it, and if you were with me and wanted to order some kind of the latest microbrew it wouldn't have bothered me a bit. I'm sure this isn't a condition solely focused on Americans. I would also be willing to bet that there have been many, many instances where there have been Canadians vacationing in the US, that have visited one of our bars or brewpubs, and ordered a Molson. To each their own I say. Again, seems like a weird thing to get hung up on, but it’s a free country. Both of them I guess!

It was meant as a joke - that is why the ugly was in quotes, it was just a bit startling at the moment
