That's quite the gut-punch. Hang in there Beavs.

Damn.
This season is going to be an odd one. Not having a full preconference schedule has really hurt the Beavs. And now this.

How do they handle that being out of town? How long does the shut down last and how does it affect players wanting to go home for Christmas?

I can't answer any of those questions, but the chances of holding the confirmed cases to 1 aren't good. I would expect the Beavs to be off for over a week. I know we quarantine our employees for 14 days when they have been in an exposed situation.

I think the NCAA has it down to 5? days now for quarantine.

5 days seem really short considering it takes about that long to manifest once contact is made, but you may be correct. Just saw today something about the Big 10 now implementing a 17 day COVID protocol. I didn't pay enough attention though to find out just what the protocol involved.

Does that mean the whole team is quarantined in Corvallis over Christmas Day? What about coaches? Next game is scheduled Jan 1st if I recall.

You would have to quarantine everyone because at some time or another the player or coach came in contact with everyone else within the program. So, yes they would be in quarantine over the Christmas Holiday. Bummer for them but I would think a quarantine type atmosphere would have been in effect before the positive case. At least I would hope the players, coaches and other personnel would be careful where they would go and who they would contact. But these are young players and sometimes they let their guard down. That doesn't mean they did and that is how they got it.

All would need to be quarantined for 5 days, then if everyone tests negative they would resume normal activities, except for those who test positive. The people who test positive would need to be quarantined for 10-14 days.

It should now also be clear to everyone why the NCAA decided this season would not count eligibility wise. There were just too many unknowns to do anything else.

Does anyone know how OSU having a positive covid case, affects the WSU team? Shouldn’t they have to quarantine since I assume they had close contact to the positive case. If it was player? Do we know for sure if it was a player that has it?

The people who test positive would need to be quarantined for 10-14 days. So imagine being in quarantined until the 26th which would be 5 days. Sitting in a dorm on campus and everyone else is home. Does that mean Scott is holed up in some hotel room without Christmas at home because he can't expose the family. So no one went home for the holidays.
That would suck.

It probably depends on who tested positive. A player? A coach? Another member? I think they also wear the contact tracing trackers.

That would suck. All potentially exposed would start the 5 day quarantine sometime before the afternoon of the 20th when the tweet came out. Latest would be the 25th in the afternoon, theoretically. At this time it can be safely assumed that all that test negative will not be contracting the virus. Just as stated earlier not all those affiliated with the team are commonly in close contact, so it does not necessarily mean all associated with the team are in quarantine. WSU could need to quarantine some on the team if they came in close contact of the person who tested positive as it could be in the incubation period of 4-5 days. They would perform a similar 5 day quarantine and test, possibly. It is just unknown. It could be as simple as a practice player (if they still use them) tested positive. This would obviously not affect WSU.
