MLB and MiLB are in the final stages of their negotiation regarding the structure and future of minor league baseball. The Short-Season Northwest League will become the only High A League in the west. Strong franchises and smart ownership provide MLB what they are looking for in Advanced A baseball. The Northwest League will play a 132 game schedule next year.
The High-A structure for MiLB is The Nortwest League, the Low-A Midwest League moving up to High-A, and the mid-Atlantic made up of a mix of former Low-A teams from the Carolina League and South Atlantic League.
The two best High-A leagues in the country, the California State League and the Florida State League, will become Low A leagues also playing a 132 game schedule.
I believe the Pioneer League has gone the way of the Buffalo.
