I only got to see the second half ... I loved watching Alatishe move. I think that guy could pick up any sport on earth and master it in less than a year ( maybe not Sump wrestling ),. Was also impressed with the rebounding. It still looked a little like Tinkle ball, because they just quit taking the three. We are going to need a consistent pair of guys to hit the crucial three balls in most games. May be fun to watch this year! Sump wrestling takes a minimum of 3 years to master. I’m a black belt in sump. Totally different skill set.

Understood - Sump wrestling is a black art ! What makes it sump, instead of Sumo. Is the fact that sump wrestling is done minus the XXL white cloth thong !

I actually really got in to watching Sumo when I lived in Hawaii. It was on late night frequently. The way I remember it the first ever non-Japanese Grand Champion was Hawaiian. Konishiki, (sp) it’s been a while. Later, another Hawaiian, Akebono also was Grand Champion. It was a long time ago, and Sumo on tv is a beer watching event, so...

Agree, I traveled over there a lot , and those wrestlers are treated like Gods ! Big parades down the street to the actual Sumo ring ; music, waving flags, singing ! The Japanese love their baseball , but Sumo is on a different level !

Actually, Konishiki didn’t make it to the Yokozuna level. He was, perhaps, held back due to being a foreigner or simply because he was not consistent enough to be a Yokozuna. Akebono and Musashimaru were the first non-Japanese Yokozuna (both from Hawaii). Sumo in person is also a beer drinking event. I remember taking in beer from the nearby 7-11 to the Osaka tourney. Sushi after was impeccable!

Wayne is right. Beavs aren't going to finish last. New guys have potential, especially Alatishe. He's going to be fun to watch.

I'll be one more person to say that I loved the newcomers in the frontcourt. Alatishe, Andela, and Calloo displayed an athleticism at the 3,4, and 5 that we haven't seen as a whole on a Beaver team in a long time. Alatihe looks like he can play the 2,3, and 4 and it would not surprise me at all to see that he is able to play the 1 if needed. Excellent muscle in the middle with Andela but Tinkle should ban him from dribbling. He was an easy pick at few times against Cal.
Lucas was a pleasant surprise when he played at PG. He has some quickness, acted like a general and shockingly recognized his responsibility there and didn't turn into a black hole a la Iverson. Not saying that he is the answer at PG, he didn't set his teammates up very much like a PG should, but he didn't turn the ball over and looked like he is learning the position.
The team looks like a PC 12 level team as far as having athletes is concerned. They're gonna get their wins this year.

Congrats to WT going out and getting the kind of guys we see light it up for mid-major teams and always wondered why they couldn’t be drawn into playing in the Pac-12. Well, looks like that’s exactly what he’s done. None of the new guys got me excited whatsoever on paper, but it’s looking like he found some real steals on the transfer portal. Even having guys that just look the part is a nice change.

Beavs had a good game while missing what we at least hope are 3 more key pieces — Hunt, Silver and Tucker. Tucker played a little, but think he was slowed by ankle. Really interested in seeing what Silver brings to the team. Supposed to be a shooter, and can always use more of those. Also want to see if Hunt’s game has progressed.
Too early to tell, but looks like this team should be a mid-pack team in conference and fun to root for. One interesting thing I noticed — Alatishe played more minutes than Ethan. When was the last time a Tinkle or Thompson didn’t lead the team in minutes? Also, hats off to Hollins. He didn’t start and only played 12 minutes, but other than some poor freethrow shooting he played well — 4 pts (including a big 3), 2 rebs, 1 assist and two steals. If Hollins stays invested even if not starting and seeing big minutes, that would bode well for the team. A lineup at times that includes Hunt (or Silver if he has any defensive chops), Ethan, Alatishe and Hollins could cause some havoc on D.
