Anthony Marnell IV is a Sophomore Catcher from Las Vegas – Bishop Gorman High School. He’s listed at 6-1 and 165 pounds. He is a switch hitter that has advanced defensive skills. A lean, athletic frame that will add mass and strength. An easy physical projection for coaches and scouts. Hits out of an upright, balanced stance with a level cut. Sprays the ball around with some power. Hit the 325’ mark as a freshman. Mirrors the stance with better power from the left side (94 mph exit velo). Has good control of his bat. Has run a 7.13 sixty.
Defensively, handles the low pitches well and can frame effectively. Throws with no wasted motion. Unloads quickly with 1.96 – 2.03 POP time. Highly accurate throwing to the tag zone. Athletic and flexible in his movements – fielding, blocking and tagging. Father was a catcher at University of Arizona and played minor league ball in the Padres chain (High A in Cal State League at Rancho Cucamonga). Plays summer baseball with the Las Vegas Recruits Premier Travel Team and trains at the LV Baseball Academy (Cadyn Grenier played on the LV Recruits team, trained at the LV BB Academy and also attended Gorman) Coincidence?
Marnell is ranked #313 nationally and #6 in Nevada by Prep Baseball Report. Perfect Game has him unranked nationally but # 10 in Nevada. Both websites say he’s the best catching prospect in Nevada. Anthony is the 12th commitment in the OSU 2023 class and the only catcher.
