I enjoyed hearing Scott Rueck’s comments on the status of the team. Here are the key points I took from it: 1) The newcomers are very mature and learning quickly 2) He considers the 4 position to be like a point-guard position because a lot of plays go through it. Because of that it requires experience and leadership. All of this made it pretty clear to me that Taya would be the likely starter at the 4. 3) He shed some light on player positions. Jovanna will play the “stretch 4 and 5”. Mack will play the “wing, 4 and we could even have her play at the 5” if the need arises. 4) He talked about having so many 3 point shooters and a strong inside game and that being the kind of team he most dreaded playing because of the difficulty in defending it. 5) I was disappointed that he didn’t talk about Jelena at all. 6) He did talk about Sasha and Savannah as both having tremendous growth potential on offense and defense. They are very similar players... both athletic, play good defense, can shoot the 3 and have a mid-range game. 7) He did not talk about that extra year of eligibility and its impact on the team. Someone must have submitted the question. Are they avoiding it for some reason?
I came out of the meeting even more pumped up about the season.

I forgot to mention that he also had good things to say about Faustino.. in particular how well she sees the court. He said he watches and wonders whether he sees a particular player open and then she makes the no look pass to them. He said that she plays very well on ball and is a true point guard. It sounds to me like she is going to do fine backing up Aleah.

Yes, I asked the eligibility question, but they didn't address any questions that might have been asked. Also didn't say anything about the non-conference schedule.
I didn't get much out of it at all.

I asked if there was any possibility, even if minor or remote, that we would see Kennedy or Andrea play this season. I agree that apparently no questions from the "audience" were answered. There were 650 to 800 people online, so that could potentially mean a lot of questions! I kind of agree with bvrbooster. I did not learn much that was new. Well, we did learn at least one unusual interest or ability or fact for each player

Well, we did learn at least one unusual interest or ability or fact for each player I couldn't hear them all, Ana was the hardest to hear, partly the accent, (her english is very good), and just a crummy microphone on her device.

Who is it that can’t shoot 3s? I think it was stated that 12 out of 13 players could. Is it Taylor?

I enjoyed hearing Scott Rueck’s comments on the status of the team. Here are the key points I took from it:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------4) He talked about having so many 3 point shooters and a strong inside game and that being the kind of team he most dreaded playing because of the difficulty in defending it.------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I came out of the meeting even more pumped up about the season. Well if you did not believe me on how effective this team can be offensively, take Scotts word for it. Out side shooting and strong post play can really compliment each other as not other combination is capable of doing. It really stretches the defense. Of course that requires constant ball movement and that is why ball dominate players who work off the dribble for their shots would also be a detriment to a team like this. Basketball is also about players who compliment each others strengths and mitigate each others weaknesses. When they don't it comes down to a trade-off and choice between one or the other. Of course ideally you also want scores on drives, but good outside shooting along with ball movement should also create defensive gaps that can be exploited in that manner without needing to be created off the dribble. This sort of game utilizes the strengths and available options without negating the outside scoring offensive opportunities. One on one on the ball drive creation will not be missed rather this team will be the better for it. Scotts teams have always had better than average outside shooters even though they have not always been utilized to the max. It is, however, very difficult to create true offensive balance. It requires a real effort by the ball handlers. For this team, more than anyother team in the past, ball movement will be of the utmost importance. When has anyone ever heard of a team when the question ask is " who is the non 3 pt shooter " rather than who is a 3 pt threat.? Every Oregon St fan should be pumped up at the potential this team has on its roster.
