Thanks for basic insights .. still have no clue Who? was lost ( assuming Knight and where ? Assuming to Arizona ? It’s not apparent from the thread. Oh maybe you couldn't see the tweet then. Says Knight committed to UCLA. Thanks - yes, did not see the tweet . Appreciate you filling me in.

Coaches will tell you, "don't worry about who you lost, focus on who you got". Like the old advice, "never cry over spilled milk". It may well be that in the interest of spending recruiting time and resources on those you can keep, we reduce our effort on any sure fire first or second round draft pick.
Mick Abel looked like a first rounder following his Junior season. Now Malakhi blew up this summer and appears to be another Beaver recruit with that early round draft look. The ten writers at Rawling's Perfect Game have him being taken by the Orioles with the 34th pick in the 2021 draft.
34. Baltimore Orioles (2/34) Malakhi Knight, OF, Marysville (Wash.) Malakhi Knight in the second gives them a well-rounded prep athlete with tremendous upside on both sides of the ball. He’s a 6.6 runner and it plays into his abilities in the outfield to go with the big power potential/hit tool combo in the bat. -Tyler Russo
Sakowski's Take: Knight represents more of a long-term bet as a prep bat, but he performed all summer and has middle-order tools along with a non-zero chance to play center long term.
It would be the same in the following year in the 2022 draft with RHP JR Ritchie. He's being projected as a first round pick by most everybody.

Personally I think we have a fighting chance with Reed. Reed is a good student with both feet on the ground. He's not a "star gazer". He understands the importance of an education and life after baseball. Reed has always been very enthusiastic about joining the Beaver family. That's the positive side of the coin.
Reed receives 70 and 80 grades in two important areas of play, he has plus speed and a plus arm. His Intangibles are also 70-80 (character, work habits, attitude, etc.). where he is still developing is the "hitting" component of baseball. Some observers expressed disappointment in his hitting through the fall and summer. That may have been a situation of unreasonable expectations, I don't know. He is still young and some swing power may emerge but to date, he has been a gap to gap line drive hitter. Since MLB Scouts emphasize hitting for average and hitting with power, Reed has slipped in the rankings in the last 6 months.
In a nutshell, his bat may move him out of the first two rounds and that would significantly improve the lure of college. Tyree is a fine young man and a phenominal player with some of the best tools in the '21 draft. We would be incredibly fortunate to see him at Oregon State.

Malakhi can move the needle.
Perfect Game moved UCLA's recruiting class from 10th nationally to # 8 this week
Reason? They flipped Malakhi Knight and signed him.

Knight is scheduled to appear w the WCL Bellingham Bells at Goss on July 7-8 vs. The Knights, less than a week before the MLB Draft - might be his only appearance at Goss (depending on UCLA vs. MLB draft). He'll be a 'Bells' teammate of Beaver (P) Justin Thorsteinson. As usual, Bellingham is well represented by UCLA players again in 2021. bellinghambells.com/team-info/roster/
