As long as Gov. Brown is in charge, no one will be seeing the Beavs play in person this coming spring. The crowd is a huge factor in home games and I don't see it happening even if you are wearing a mask or not. We will be lucky to have those Arizona Games not cancelled. She has already extended the indoor Mask Mandate until May 4th. Go Beavs! I doubt the governor of Oregon has a say in what happens in Arizona. Maybe.

IMO, by March, there should be a significant vaccination program in place. Of course given the order of vaccination priority, the stands will be packed with medical people, first responders, people with pre-existing conditions and those over 65, but if you have that magic golden ticket from your doc that says you got those two shots (in the arse for a few people I know just because , then that and 30 bucks will get you a seat at Goss.

IMHO it's less about WHO is Governor, and more about the fact that the past 11 days (11/5 - 11/15) represent the 11 highest days for new Oregon COVID cases during the entire Year 2020 (Averaging about 900 cases per day). And it could well accelerate from present. Hopefully vaccines will be available, to at least medical personnel and high risk individuals, by the traditional start of College Baseball Season (mid-Feb.). With both Pfizer and (now) Moderna showing promise, that may be realistic. I'm sure hoping that the Surprise AZ series works out. The stadium seats 10,500, plus huge grass area beyond the OF fence. Typical crowds have been 2,500 to 3,000....and 2021 may see a decrease in attendance ...so smart choices for viewing should be available. And, by the time Corvallis home season (or certainly the PAC-11 Season) rolls around, vaccine availability just may save the day. I'm a 'glass half full' fan. Go Beavs! Can't wait to see Darwin Barney/Joey Wong in an OSU uniform.

This nine month covid nightmare will be over by the time they are playing baseball in Surprise.

How about EVERYONE take their "talking points" somewhere else? This is a sports board, not a political board!

Availability of vaccine key. If 75000000 doses (37500000) people, are available the first month, medical community and over 70/pre existing conditions take those. Next several months the over 60, preexeisting conditions and teachers, essential workers take all that. Its going to take all year to get everyone, probably longer because there are 7 billion other people in the world after all. Under 30 healthy people go to the end of the priority list.

Back to 2021 BASEBALL !! I comb whatever resources I can think of to glean info on Spring NCAA baseball. The Surprise Stadium website doesn't yet acknowledge college ball the weekend of Feb. 20-21, but it does show MLB Spring Training beginning there on Saturday, Feb. 27. The Q portion of their website shows a question (re:MLB) - "Will there be fans"? On 11/19, the Stadium website responded: "Keep following us and checking SurpriseStadium.com for Fan information once it becomes available." The fairly active Devils Dugout website has not yet had a whiff about Spring Baseball, though there's always interesting ongoing discussion of ASU's potential for the upcoming season, mixed in with near universal hatred of Coach Smith. On another note, the WCL has released its 2021 summer schedule, beginning (as typical) about June 4.

Cleaned up thread. The Covid-19 vaccine timing speculations are at least tangentially related, so I'll leave those for now; the politics thereof need to go elsewhere.

FWIW - More Covid problems. I read that Maryland has cancelled their trip to Surprise.

FWIW - More Covid problems. I read that Maryland has cancelled their trip to Surprise. I'm certainly still hoping for Surprise. The size of the stadium seating + OF area provides such a great venue for fans for Covid era ball. Another note: nice comments from Beav players re: one of their new coaches - fb.watch/1-LmGQnerd/

Another note: nice comments from Beav players re: one of their new coaches - fb.watch/1-LmGQnerd/Surprise will definitely be interesting. The virus trends and vaccine will obviously be factors. My concern, and I do understand the professional baseball aspect, is that the Royals and Rangers will say no because there are always early reporting players. Plus the ground crews, security personnel, and the associated stadium personnel who are present for the college games are the same people who will be present for the actual Spring training start. My total guess right now would be college games take place but no fans. My wife is gung ho, but I am totally on the fence.

If there are games in Surprise, and they allow fans, I'm going. Ready to get busy living.
