Five athletes from Oregon State's 2020 roster have entered the transfer portal following last springs shortened baseball season. I believe they are all enrolled at their new schools and preparing to play baseball when the college season begins in 2021. Where are they?
LHP Kai Murphy is at Arizona State OF J.D. McLaughlin is at Purdue C Ben Steck is with Nobie at Everett C.C. IF Jake Harvey is with Andy Jenkins at CSU-Fullerton LHP Andrew Walling is at Eastern Oklahoma C.C.
The Beavers welcomed three Junior College transfers that are with the team this fall. They are: C Gavin Logan from Linn-Benton C.C. RHP Bryant Salgado from San Jacinto, TX. C.C. LHP Chase Watkins from College of Central Florida (C.C.)

Does anyone know if Steck is just a 1 year plant possibly with bigger rosters this year so he can get playing time?

I didn't know JD went to Purdue. I thought I saw that he landed at Central Arizona College?

He tweeted this week - said he's happy to be at Purdue.

No, I didn't forget him. He never entered the transfer portal.
I listed the 5 OSU players that entered the portal and ultimately, transferred to a new school.
Players like Brent Soulages, Greg Fuchs, Carter Booth, Wade Meckler, and Wyatt Young have all left the program but were never in the transfer portal.

I see. I was told he is playing at LBCC so just assumed he had to enter portal to be able to play somewhere else.

Local JC. Sitting vs playing. Playing is more growth and more fun. I learned that in HS. JV or sit behind two all-league seniors. Coach was right. Hell, there was a pinch and spent half a season learning how to catch. A year of eligibility either way. Good move.

OSU has a history of populating LBCC, Lane and Chemeketa with players that they want to get playing time while still being close to "home".

Every elite program needs a farm system.
P.T. = seasoning and development.
Tacoma CC is another program with a good relationship with OSU. They loved McGarry and would welcome anyone else we might wish to "season".
With Nobach at Everett CC, I'll bet the red carpet is out for any Beaver transfer in search of P.T.
Sagey nailed it - riding the pine only develops blisters.

LBCC with Gipson and now Peterson there, might be considered the "pipeline" to OSU Baseball. Melton, Mascarenas, Hamilton, and now Townsend and Logan.

As I recall, in 2020 we carried 34 or 35 on the roster. I have no idea how many "not on the roster but still with the program" guys there are attending OSU.

A retraction/correction is in order.
After some digging, I find I was mistaken on J.D. McLaughlin tweeting he was at Purdue - I didn't read it correctly, his re-tweet referred to a friend and former teammate named "C.J." that was now at Purdue. J.D. is indeed confirmed on the Central Arizona C.C. roster for 2020/2021.
Keep your filters on, I tend to be a bit mistake prone sometimes.
