Larry Scott Could Have Been a Hero....but he ended up a zero.

I'd call it another JC hit piece, but with Larry Scott, it's like the Pac-12 CEO's hired a greedy self-centered person who looked good on paper, but hack, anyone could have made money for their conference back in the good old days of tv networks throwing money at every sport. The Sillycon Valley bubbler has burst and Scott's covered in his own horse refuse.

Isn't this Corporate 421? C-Suite execs looking out for themselves.
Larry Scott was a good choice to replace Hansen but he's proven at this point that he's not capable of doing this job and if the conf. keeps him it is continuing to throw good money after bad. I suppose there is that Dumb-N-Dumber "so you're saying there's a chance" that his long-term vision of creating/owning their network from the ground up does pay off whenever the contract finally comes up. But from where I sit, it increasingly looks like the P12 is going to be $100-150M per school behind the other conf. and ending up teaming with a major network on the next deal with all the lost time & revenue being lost opportunity cost. Being morally superior to other conferences isn't going to cut it if the goal is to play in the CFB playoffs as the format is constructed.

I've stood up for Scott until now, but giving himself a bonus early was/is a BAD decision. He's probably just made his firing more likely.

I'll disagree that Limo Larry was a good replacement for Hansen. A monkey would have been a good replacement for Hansen. Limo Larry CV: - tennis player; singles record as a pro: 1-18 - CEO of Women's Tennis Assoc. - Zero experience with Football - Zero experience in collegiate sports administration - getting his ass kick in the TV rights game - moved conference HQ from low rent to super high rent area - bungled the conference expansion - bungled the pandemic re-opening - overpaid, under performing

Since then, I have not been impressed.

Unfortunately others were able to later surpass it based on his success in negotiating. In retrospect the deal should probably had been a few years shorter. My worry is that when the next negotiation occurs ESPN may be no longer throwing money around.

He had no business being commish of a P5 conference. Thought so then... obviously proven so now

It ends sooner and there is potential for a serious windfall when that happens. The Pac16 was the coup of the century as wilky put it, but the backup plan was to bargain for a record breaking deal and not lose control of the network.

Only shot the Pac-12 has at coming close to the level of money they got with that first contract is to piece more networks together - might even find some games on the History Channel - you know, following those fact based programs like Ancient Aliens and the Search for Hitler. If we get really lucky, tuck a game in a day of Pawn Star or American Picker reruns.

The network lost all momentum when the last USC coach was canned and they were unable to launch “Keeping up with the Sarkisian’s” Now, they are just stuck with “Cristobal’s drag race”
