Re-read the article, they mistakenly attributed the death to Covid before they even knew the cause. And of course it spread like wild fire. All of the news organizations are making retractions now. BTW, I am still in favor of postponing football. And I agree with atownbeaver and others that it is a real shame the NCAA didn't lead the cahrge so that all conferences were doing the same thing. I am just saying, lets not spread inaccurate news, especially when the media actual does the responible thing and tries to retract  |

The problem is, 9 out of 10 people who saw this headline will not see the retraction, so it becomes fact. Additionally, the media does not give back the advertising money they received for running a salacious headline... and thus, this black hole feeds itself. Meanwhile, probably what we should be talking about is that the wildfires out west could be real threat to additional worse outcomes/deaths to Covid-19. There's increasing evidence that the lower death rates in recent months are due to people being outside more and reducing Vitamin D deficiency that's quote common in the overall population, but hard to get that benefit now with a thick layer of smoke blocking the sun. The media in general is a least as big of an issue that needs attention as Covid is, if you as me... The incentives, who owns what, the biasness, the rush to "print, and talk about no accountability! Sigh... I was struck yesterday at how COLD it was in Corvallis yesterday with all the ash and smoke blocking the sun. 2020 has just been a strange, awful year  |

So are you saying the school's at fault because if they had not cancelled football and were testing the players they would have caught his condition before it was a problem? Understood |

Too many people can’t sift through obvious propaganda because it’s what they want to hear and the poor kid is used for it which is disgusting. |

My work computer doesn't show tweets, so I can't see whatever tweet you posted. But I assume it says something about unfortunate Mr. Stephens cause of death, which the old google machine says was a blood clot to the heart. It also says that he had contracted Covid-19 at some point. Conspicuously missing is any diagnosis of Myocarditis, or if doctors have linked the clot to the Covid infection, or even WHEN the infection was (was it last week or 4 months ago?). Don't get me wrong I certainly feel for this young man and his parents and family, but I can't find an article actually willing to blame his death on covid, just that he did in fact have covid at some point and has now in fact died of a blood clot. BTW, myocarditis CAN in rare cases lead to blood clots. Usually by weakening the heart, decreasing blood flow, a clot forms (elsewhere, usually the legs) the clot can then become free floating and end up as a blockage in the heart, lungs or brain. So it is certainly possible that Covid was a major contributing factor. It would certainly be a very unlucky set of events. |
