Disaster is unfolding before our eyes in the Santiam River Canyon, and the Silver Creek Watershed. I have family that has had to evacuate, small towns along Hwy 22 have burned to the ground, and with the winds blowing and low humidity, its at a level to be the worst fire complex in memory.

We have relatives from Silverton area who are seeking shelter at our home.

My wife's family has friends who are losing it all up the McKenzie. Blue River is gone, Goodpasture, Vida...it's just moving too fast with too much fuel. And it's very frustrating because it's hard to get timely information from any reliable sources, and phones/cells are not working or swamped.

Damn.
I know that area well. Beautiful rugged terrain. But like you note, lots of fuel for fire. The residents and the firefighters are in my thoughts tonight.
We evacuated yesterday. Went over to the coast. Out of the frying pan, into the fire. Came back home since we’re still at Level 2. Praying that 3 doesn’t come.
Have a friend in Lincoln City, just had to evacuate because the north side of the city is at risk for having the Otis fire make a run to the sea. My youngest son drove down 101 past Santa Barbara CA with a fire burning in the distant hills inland. We know how that turned out - hope and pray that this is not the same scenario.
