Totally with you lotrader.... Just take a look at what Rueck got from Syd Weise, Jamie W., & Mik Pivec......none were Top 20 recruits, yet their names are already part of OSU WBB legend.... I'm hoping we see great things from Talia.... GO BEAVS!!

beav74 - Same idea, same concept. And it makes sense. USC & Alabama have a lot of premiere players to choose from - and when they offer a kid it means they are convinced he's worth the schollie. Rough parallel: when Buffet announces he's going to invest in a stock, other brokers will up their assessment of it because they know full well that Buffet has done his due diligence. If I ran a Scouting Service, in addition to my own scouting, I'd get to know every Asst. Coach I could find and talk with them about who they value and why....It makes sense. Shifting gears: There is nothing in the videos I have seen, or in the feedback I have received from coaches who have watched her play, that makes me think Talia is a National Top 10 player.... GO BEAVS!! 411500, you said something I haven't had the courage to say, but now you've opened the door. I hope Talia goes on to become one of the best OSU players ever, but right now I would rank her behind both Sasha and Greta, two of the Beavs other recent highly regarded recruits. That brings up another aspect of recruiting and that is not just who is the best high school player, but who can become the best college player. I remember years ago there was a very highly regarded high school player from Oregon (men's), who signed with a major university. He came out of High School highly skilled and highly ranked. He went on to have a good, but not great college career. He just didn't develop like some other players did. Successful programs are good at finding those players who can develop into the best. Overall, I think Oregon State has done a very good job finding those players during SR's first decade as head coach.

I'm sure it was a disappointment to both Greta and Talia to have their ESPN ranking drop so much due to the changing in rating service provider from Dan Olson to Premier Basketball. However, they are still the same players we have all expressed excitement to be part of the program and I think they are both a great fit with us.
For what it's worth, here are their rankings across three services (ESPN, Prospects Nation, and BlueStar, respectively):
Greta: 32, 26, 8 (average: 22) Talia: 25, 27, 41 (average: 31)
Greta may have benefited by being a BlueStar 30 member which I do not believe Talia was. So BlueStar would be much more familiar with her in that case. Also, I'm not sure how recently the Prospects Nation and BlueStar rankings have been updated.

There has often been some big changes from one year to the next.

Well, there were some changes, and I have no idea when they were made.
Kennedy dropped from 19 to 20 Taylor dropped from 42 to 43 Sasha dropped from 16 to 21
No idea why. My guess would be somebody made a big, big jump in 2919, knocking everybody who had been above her down 1 spot. Possibly Fran Belibi after she won the dunk contest?
By the way, Syd was 80 in her year.

ESPN, Prospects Nation, BlueStar rankings for 2019-2021:
Kennedy (20, 100, ?) Taylor (43, 16, ?) Sasha (21, 14, 12) Savannah (not ranked, 86, not ranked) Greta: (32, 26, 8) Talia: (25, 27, 41)
Prospects Nation ranking of Kennedy is laughable in hind sight. Sasha's ranking has the least variation.

A potential future starting five of Taylor, Kennedy, Sasha, Greta, and Talia seems pretty exciting to me. Especially looking ahead to Greta's and Talia's sophomore year i.e. after they have a year of college experience under their belt. Of course all kinds of things can change between now and then, but it's fun to look forward to regardless.

Who they are is much more important than where they are ranked.

I was just looking again at the 2021 Hoopgurlz ratings, which, as we all know dropped Talia and Greta a bunch. A few other significant changes around the PAC 12:
Arizona Aaronette Vonleh from 38 to 100
Ariz State Meg Newman from 46 to 33
Stanford Brook Demetre from 4 to 11 " Okikiola Iriafon from 9 to 19 " Jzania Harriel from 52 to 78
Vonleh, of course, is from Oregon.

Seems the new ratings have a little "east-coast bias" going. Or maybe the old ratings had a "west-coast bias". It just shows how limited they are - they're just a couple guys that see each girl once, twice, maybe three times in person.
So, does anyone have any insight into why Scott contracts with one of these services (as has been reported here)? Is it to give an independent opinion on the players he's recruiting; is it to find girls that he might otherwise miss (e.g. Savannah?); or is it something else?

These rankings are clueless. The PG (Talana Lepolo) on the best team in the EYBL is not ranked. She is the most college ready point guard at all the NEYC events that I've been to this year. It depends on what the scouts are looking for. Do they rank flashy players higher than players that coaches value? Probably, but judging your recruiting class on these numbers is silly.

Covid meant many west coast players couldn’t play much Travel ball in the east Thus they weren’t seen or hardly seen thus the drops
