I heard some representative from the Navajo nation suggesting the Washington Codetalkers. I like that idea.

To those of you wondering about Native American mascots in college ball:
The NCAA essentially banned them in the early 2000s, laying down rules against hostile and offensive mascots. I don't remember what the sanctions were going to be if a school tried to keep their mascot, but I seem to recall it would be a ban on post-season play.
Several schools changed their names. Some schools were allowed to keep their names if they got permission from the tribe that the school used as a mascot. So, with tribal permission, the Utes, Seminoles, Chippewas and (I think) a few others were allowed to keep their tribal names. The North Dakota Fighting Sioux could not when one of the Siuox tribes voted against it. Schools with generic Native American names had to get rid of their mascots, especially when they used offensive mascots.
San Diego State Aztecs, which used to emulate a human sacrifice during home football games, had a big controversy about the name a few years ago. They got to keep it because the NCAA knew of no living descendants of the Aztecs. They got rid of the human sacrifice, however. I thought they discontinued the sacrifices because they couldn’t find any virgins at San Diego State University.

Myself, I think Fighting Sioux is an honor. I honestly don’t get it, and I’m not a bad person no matter what some folks on here will automatically think. It’s a white man’s perspective. Try to take their land and they fight. So we honor them in how they strongly they fought by naming a football team after them. The culture of the Sioux, like the other tribes, was much more diverse and richer than simply fighting. It mischaracterizes who they are as a people. Since you’re from Idaho, you might know the Nez Perce. Do you think Chief Joseph who famously said “I will fight no more forever” to have a football team named the Fighting Nez Perce?

The Washington Republicans is the perfect name for the team playing in D.C.
Republicans in our nation's capital routinely get about 4% of the vote, while the pure as "Snow White" Democrats get 90%.
The Washington Republicans will seek protection under the endangered species act(ESA), which will allow them to compete for NFL East Titles for at least 50 years.

Just not something lame like "Wizards." I grew up playing D&D and reading fantasy novels and even I thought that was a dumb name.

A total dodge by a-hole owner. Not disputing the a-hole part, but I don't think it is a dodge. They've dropped the Redskins and will have a new mascot eventually. It takes a lot of time and effort to come up with a new mascot/name these days. Lot's of design work and legal wrangling; copyrights, websites, trademarks, etc. People have been trademark squatting on many of the possibilities to try and wrangle some $ from Snyder. If you are arguing that he should have done this years ago, I agree.
