Just to clarify the political comments . The Lincoln project is a group of Republicans who don’t support Trump. You call it a joke . Why ? Because you believe every republican should blindly support him. I have many republican friends who don’t support him. I guess they are a joke too. I also agree we shouldn’t be making political statements on the football thread, but you made it sound like it was some whacky ultra leftist group.

Isn't Ed Ray stepping down? How about our new president come in and say: "As it turns out, the Ed had a very ethnocentric view on the term "Civil War", and that it somehow could be interpreted as a reference to the American Civil War. It is, in fact, a reference to the more classical definition, where both sides claim to represent the state's civil society. This is why the great Dee Andros once said the game was played was for "the right to live in the state"; which bears out, as it is truly unbearable to live in the state after a loss." True to form here, Americans think everything is about the U.S. Maybe the next president can actually use the platform to educate the masses on the history of the world's civil wars, why this name has nothing to do with the American Civil War, and things go back to the way they were - it's the Civil War Game(s). And if that isn't acceptable, then we just go with a Roman historical reference, and use the latin " Bellum Civile", so that it's quite clearly not a reference to US history. You mean the new Prez would say “This is F King ridiculous”?

But I think it’s funny to make a political post and then agree they shouldn’t be made. Classic!

HWSNBN was hyping Platypus Cup as a replacement for the Civil War. It goes without saying that this is not a viable option. Mostly because he will claim the idea and also it's lame. There should be a suitable mourning period before the rivalry gets renamed with something cool, hopefully. On the one hand - Can anyone think of another rivalry where there is an actual living creature that embodies both mascots? I can't. That is unique. But, that's about it. On the other - as we all now know, the Platypus is a relatively new discovery in terms of known species, and native to Australia only - like so many species down there. There could almost be no less association with Oregon, the US, or North America if you tried to come up with something. In was already on the fence on this one. It obviously really doesn't have a place in a college rivalry in Oregon. The fact that Canocrappo endorsed the idea has summarily put this one to bed for me. NEXT!

I'll let OSU's new President speak for himself
