Utterly ridiculous. It's still going to be called that. Just like the Red River Shootout.

I hate this decision, but also understand why it has to happen and realize it's probably the right thing to do. People will still use that term for a few years, but the younger generation will easily make the shift. It's time for old people to get out of the way, baby boomers had their chance, and I'm one of them. I give us a C+. Generation before us got an A. Let's see how the new kids do, they have shown some interesting gusto recently. Now is the opportunity to find a new name...Hazelnut Fest? Rain Bowl? Marijuana Shootout? Oops, I mean Marijuana Showdown.

well, I've had more than one transplant from midwest/east coast tell me they thought it was an odd name for a rivalry game in the state of Oregon to begin with, so there's that.
I just hope it doesn't end up being the Dr Scholls/Dutch Bros/Pizza Hut BIG GAME.

More like we're gunna rename it too something more fitting like: The platypus Trophy The i5 brawl The Battle of Oregon The Lewis and clark trophy Something along the lines of these more proper and suitable names for the rivalry

I always associated OSU with the USA/Union/North. The schmucks were the southern insurrectionists. Glad to see it go actually.

"Changing this name is overdue as it represents a connection to a war fought to perpetuate slavery,"
I don't like the change and I really don't like this line. Seems to me that's a bad way to look at it, I've always thought of the Civil War as a war to end slavery. That's on top of the fact that there's no real connection between the athletic rivalry and the American Civil War.

How about the name "FTD"? Short, simple, and fits perfectly.

I've always thought of it as the time Captain America decided to leave the Avengers and started fighting them. Other than the OSU/U0 Civil War, that's what I think of.

Exactly, but since we're now rewritting history, or getting rid of it altogether, wtf knows!!

Well, actually, we should be pulling down the statues of Lewis and Clark...well, especially Clark. York was their slave who was important to the success of the journey. And, apparently, Clark kept him as a slave afterward.
At least, we don't need to rename a whole university.
