I have another idea for you to consider: require posters to post under their real name. No internet handles, usernames, etc.

People will just lie and you will have a dozen John Smith's on the board. More over, one of the neat treats of a message board for football is getting the inside scoop. Well, the ability to get the inside scoop usually counts on being anonymous. Of course, sometimes the "scoop" is BS. But sometimes it is not. At the end of the day, what we all really crave is talking sports. I think "real name" would be a hindrance to conversation from that regard. pros and cons to anonymous status.

Sadly I know no other Beaver fans. I might as well just turn in my "Go Beavs" card if this place shuts down. Until then...

I really enjoy the informative aspects of this board - and the ability to connect with other passionate Beaver fans. It is valuable enough for me to "put my money where my mouth is" and provide a financial contribution since I am blessed enough to be in a position where I can do so. But there are elements to this board that could be tiresome: a segment of the population (of ANY board, mind you) will troll, name call, politicize discussions or otherwise not make ANY positive contribution to the community - and as a moderator I imagine that gets tiresome. Maybe not shut down the board but: - get additional help to moderate/operate? - take a sabbatical for a few weeks while no sports? - aggressively reduce your overhead by removing bad apples aggressively from the community? - increase the financial commitment from participants to make it more worth your while? (I don't know the business model of the board, to be quite honest). At the end of the day, this board has certainly had a positive effect on my ability to be a passionate Beaver, but I will be that regardless of your choice, and you should definitely look after your enlightened self-interests, with thanks from all of us for your great work, and my hope that this community continues. All the best!
Go Beavers!

I have been a moderator on 5 different boards. It is a total pain. It has its rewards, but as in most things in life, the 5% make it hard for everyone else. Rules are in place on a board like this because of the 5%. If I EVER cause any mod on this board stress, PM me. I'll cut it short order. This place could be easily run, if folks checked their emotion at the door on most things. This is my only source for Beaver news. I would never ask anyone who is struggling with this to keep it open for me, that would be selfish. I can however, say that I appreciate this place very much. I was a mod on beaverfootball.com for a spell. Then I got in a kerfuffle with the mods on the duck board, after they started blanket banning Beaver fans after one of our civil wars wins (2007? maybe) So I banned all the mods on educk from beaverfootball.com. We agreed I was probably not cut out for moderation.

I'm genuinely intrigued by this.. did you just randomly adopt the Beavs one day as a youngster in Reno? Go to school at OSU, but no other family members are fans? Dislike the ducks so much that you went all in on the in-state rival?

I love Benny's House, which is most likely obvious by my post quantity. I would prefer zero politics, but maybe a section like "The Porch" where people can go and try to convince the other side to be the first person ever to change their opinion based on a message board argument would keep it out of the sports zones. I hope it doesn't go away. I regret taking the bait and entering the political discussion and have pretty much relegated my participation to a thumbs up here and there. If you decide to fold it I guess I'll have to go back to porn. Thanks for the effort one way or another.

WoW... Did not see this coming. Football practice starts in a few weeks and I was REALLY looking forward to starting a post titled "Is ______ running routes yet?" Alas - I think I was one of the original members of Pure-Orange. I cannot remember if I was on another board before that shut down and Lucky started Pure Orange. Those early days of Beaverfuzz vs. MomK. The glory days. The stories that Beavermobile would conjure up. Incredible recruiting insights from Beavergeek. So much history and great info is presented here. I also know that many Beaver Fans from outside the area come here to get there Beaver Sports info. The collective group is excellent at linking articles from other sites, or in some cases providing a quick synopsis. As with all things in this world, I have come to realize that all good things come to an end. (even the not so good things come to an end as well) Last I want to offer a shout out to OSUprof for providing great info and insight into financial info regarding OSU athletics and what is happening inside OSU in general as it impacts the OSU Athletic Department. One last thing, if it is a time issue, maybe you would be able to recruit some OSU students to do an internship over here and they could generate a class grade. Again OSUprof would have more insight into that than I would. If this is it. Goodnight and Farewell. May God, Creator, Universal Force bless all of you on your journey. It ain't over until it's over!

I don't think anyone could be Jonathan Smith... he probably shouldn't be posting on the message board

So that was you? LOL. The good old days. Yeah, and I will admit it probably makes me part of the problem. BF.com was kinda the wild west... I thought it was the most fun that way, myself. It was a good raucous group, we had a healthy amount of interaction with opposing fans. It was fun and lively every day during the best points. This place has that same DNA and the same flavor, just more isolationist because it isn't tied into a network like Scout.com was with eDuck. In one sense, that's a good thing because there's a little less "insurrection" but also... it tends to create a weird dynamic not to have any defined enemies. It's like it is so ingrained into our tribal nature that we MUST create villains to destroy. It's a weird ruthless kind of Lord of the Flies tendency. It makes you wonder about the need to fight endless wars, in our personal lives, in our work, in our communities, in our country, in the world. Evil must be identified and rooted out... even if that evil must be manufactured. So, we get what we have here. I loved BF.c and the fact that I hung around and helped run it for 15 solid years must speak to either my overwhelming capacity for patience or overwhelming capacity for self-flagellation because it is a GRIND. And as the Power That Be, you constantly are assaulted with these weird accusations that you are some kind of power-hungry goon, bent on the enjoyment of subjugating others. People start calling you s%#t like "The Grand Poobah". Like... what? This is the most thankless, time consuming thing ever, running a f%#*ing message board for people to argue on. It interrupts the rest of your life. It limits you in your engagement with your career, with your family, with your hobbies. Is it crippling? Well, no. But make no mistake, it's a ton of work and if you fall down once or experience any issues, people will tar and feather you. Yeah, some people will come to your defense but do you guys remember all the complaining about pure-orange when they had technical troubles? And the shade that is still thrown at Lucky for shutting it down? I dunno man, I've mostly avoided posting here during the pandemic because I'm trying to stick with positive things and improve my corner of the world the best I can without making somebody else's world worse because I'm frustrated that they're not seeing something I see as simple. I won't post on angrybeavs because I'm just not into the vibe. I enjoyed watching the Beavs played just about every single week last year, and it was fun to run here for the best thoughts about it. The gameday threads here would be sorely, sorely missed by me. But I completely understand if Glove decided that he's had enough of this and it's a clean break to do it now while sports aren't happening. If he sticks around, I'll keep posting here, when there is something to post about related to the dedicated subject matter: The Beavs, and Beaver football. If he hangs it up, I'll understand. Glove, I love ya no matter what for putting this place up for the last several years. You the man.

I generally want the board to stay active, even though the moderation is more difficult without sports happening, as it's hard to fault people for drifting off topic with so little to actually discuss. But I certainly have better uses of my time... if I wanted to watch/referee political sh*t-shows, I wouldn't have killed my Facebook account.
That said, the rare, interesting tidbit periodically coming in around OSU sports is still worth it for me.
