We have elected a minority president in two of our last five presidential elections (2000, 2016). That's 40%. In every single other election in America, from school boards to the Senate, the candidate with the most votes wins. It's past time to eliminate the EC and make every person's vote count the same in our presidential elections. School boards and Senators are also locally-elected offices, too. Not national. Senators -- U.S. Senators -- are statewide offices. Geez, beaverclever, you should have paid more attention in Civics.

What will these same anti-EC people never promote the idea of? Term limits.
Surprise, surprise.
We have term limits. They're called -- elections. Did you actually graduate college without learning these things?

Trump won the EC by 77 votes. That's a LOT of "backwater" States. What is so strange and foreign about the concept that a people's leader ought to represent at least half of the people in the country? Hillary DID NOT represent half the people in the country. NEITHER of them received half the actual vote in the country, neither of them received 30% of eligible voters. If Hillary had received 50% plus 1 vote you may have an argument. She did not receive a simple majority vote. When the people can't decide in a close race, leaving it to the states makes a great deal of sense.

I see that I am naive in expecting a single candidate to receive more than 50% of the vote. Third party spoilers eat up several percentage points seemingly each election.
Wouldn't it be nice, though? I don't claim to have the answers, but I think the way that it is set up now, candidates see their path to the presidency and they don't have to worry about appeasing the other side. We know which states are blue and which are red. A handful bounce back and forth. The election process is more about "democrat" and "republican" than the actual issues.
Just heard Trump talking in Tulsa...attacking Seattle and calling it the "radical left." And we should just sit back and watch it fall. Wow. That's his campaign trail message? Division and more division.
This is the problem with the country. The "united" is bs.

He even followed up with "Not National". Explain to me which Senate race seat is voted on Nationally. And I'm done with whatever you decide to reply with or not.

I completely agree. BOTH sides are just as guilty. The sooner more people hold BOTH side accountable (even their own) the sooner The UNITED States of America can get back to what she should be!

I said they were statewide because votes are tabulated statewide. Yeah, you're done. Bye.

If only they could follow this board’s examples! You and many others have been shining stars of unification since BH devolved into a political forum.

It is difficult to remain cool when others make personal attacks. If you attack my ideas, no problem. Belittling me or attacking me personally is challenging. I’m not experienced in internet debate and don’t have the thick skin others have. So nice personal attack with a side of sarcasm. As for BH turning into a political forum, I simply stated that I would like no football this year—that was my prediction. You guys jumped all over that. And it’s been going ever since. So thanks. You all could have left it alone. It wasn’t a political statement, but you guys turned it into one.

It wasn’t a political statement, but you guys turned it into one. irimi- I feel like I tried to engage you in an effort to discuss the middle ground in an earlier thread. It did not seem to go anywhere. If you were turned off by my calling you a "zealot", it was my effort to point out that you were not engaging me with any kind of "middle ground". I really did want to discuss things like do ends really justify means. You asked me a question about Christianity, and when I corrected you, you brought some negative Trump bible rhetoric. I was more turned off by you side-stepping my attempt at rational discussion than any shade being thrown at the President. Honestly, I was surprised. I chalked it up to some "Good People" have areas of their life and opinions that make them "lose there minds". (my words, hope they make sense. Not intended as any slight) I am not a big political person either. What drives me crazy about most political discussions is the hypocrisy. People demanding respect/equality/justice/rights etc...etc...etc.---and not showing it to others with different views. It really would be beneficial for the good of the Nation if people would honestly be open to looking at the similarities we all have and celebrating the differences we have.

No, he didn't. He said they were "locally" elected along with school boards. School boards, city councils, state legislators, members of Congress are all, locally-elected. U.S. Senators are not. Oregon has 300+ members of Congress (by your own idiotic definition of "locally" elected)?
The things you learn on here.
No one taught you how to read, beaverclever. Just like a Trumpskyite.
