Wasted scholarship? This is probably the best-spent scholarship in the program.
This is a life-changing experience for Andrea - with probably as much impact as any scholarship or financial aid package received by any student in the entire university. I'm not suggesting that we measure all athletic scholarships by how much they change a life trajectory, but let's celebrate those occasions when our desire for athletic success can translate into real good for deserving young people.

Tierra Rodgers a University of Califonia 2009 recruit was diagnosed with a heart condition before practice for her freshman season even started. She was ruled out from playing ever again, but they still carried her all four years on scholarship. A decent program will do that.

I'm reposting this comment by bennyskid because I think it is the first post I've ever seen on this board with 15 "likes." And it deserves every one of them. I found bennyskid's comments worth re-reading. Especially in light of the fact that here on July 4th weekend our longest thread has to do with one of our favourite players being tagged as unworthy to receive another year of eligibility on the team to which she has dedicated the last 4 years of her basketball life.... GO BEAVS!!

GO BEAVS!! It’s really a double standard on this board. If this happened to the men’s team, it would really be considered a wasted scholarship. I don’t remember all the love for Chai Baker or Li.

That’s great for the men’s team, but Rueck has two additional scholarships and has said numerous times he does not want 15 players on his team. The major difference is Tinkle needs the scholarships, Rueck does not.

If Scott doesn’t need the scholarships, then why is everyone pushing for Kat to get another year because the team is short on guards?

Never said he doesn’t need players, I said he doesn’t need scholarships. Big difference! People are pushing for Kat because she is a veteran, knows the system, has loads of Pac-12 and NCAA tournament experience, and can be a huge asset if healthy.

He needs players but not scholarships? So, he needs a bunch of walk-ons?

Rueck has said that he likes a roster of 12-13 players. He could add 2-3 more players, and he still doesn’t need Andrea’s scholarship, because he doesn’t like having 14-15 players.

So, why did you say they don’t need scholarships?

So, why is the other poster saying they don’t need scholarships? Because, even if they add 2-3 more scholarship players, they still have 1-2 scholarshops still open, thus they don’t need those 1-2 remaining scholarships.

No double standard by me. I don't post on the men's boards because of the nastiness directed toward the athletes.
