I wish the best for Andrea. I'm not sure what the doctors are telling her, but she still desires to play basketball and hopefully one day professionally. I hope it works out for her. It would be great if she could see her dreams come true.

I’m at least glad she specifically said she hoped for SOON and not SOMEDAY when referring to getting back on the court.

With all that Andrea had to put up with when she first came to the US, I really appreciate the character and class displayed by Coach Rueck and his staff in keeping her on scholarship. Even if she never plays a minute in a Beaver uniform, I have a feeling that she contributes in her own way. Hell she is the biggest cheerleader on the bench and not just because she is 6' 9" tall.

How about someone explaining what you're all talking about....The original post from Andrea that I received is in Spanish... GO BEAVS !! When I click on it it comes up with the interview in English but the comments aren't. I have no idea why it comes up that way for me. One comment was that she is working with her doctors and she hopes to be able to play soon rather than someday. She would also like to play for the Paraguay national team. She would like to play professionally after college. After that she would like to coach boys. That is the gist of the interview.

believeinthebeavs.....thanks for the overview.....Maybe even greater clarity to the entire exchange will be forthcoming on Monday..... Are we to assume from her comments that there is a glimmer of hope for the Beavs that she will play?? GO BEAVS !!

Hoping to play soon and being cleared to play soon are 2 very different things. There is nothing in this interview that even hints at her being cleared to play this year, or any year.
I agree that it speaks highly of Scott that she will, no doubt, retain her scholarship for all 4 years. Then again, I think almost every program would do the same.

Most of us have read the speculation as to why Aquino has not been cleared to play in games during her first two seasons in Corvallis. Based upon the limited amount that Rueck has been able to share about it, I think that most of us have concluded that whatever medical risk is keeping Aquino out of competition will be too great to allow her to compete for the Beavs throughout her career.
I do applaud Andrea for her enthusiasm and consistent support for her teammates. Imagine if you possessed the height and skills that the 6'9" Aquino has but were not permitted to showcase those gifts and talents due to concerns about your health. That would be extremely frustrating when you know that you can help your team but may never get that chance at this level.

Given her condition, I’m surprised she is still hoping to play. Seems like a longshot, at least in the NCAA.

Not to be too cold but why is a scholarship being used on her?

Not to be too cold but why is a scholarship being used on her? We are using, I think, 11 scholarships out of 15 possible. That leaves 4 free for the elusive point guard that people think we could be targeting as a late arrival this year. So that scholarship is not being "wasted". It just costs the school an entirely tolerable amount of money to keep her on. And there IS hope that she can play, since apparently it is just a doctor's decision: "problems that right now my doctors and I are working" puts it in the hands of doctors, who might someday tell her that she can play a certain number of minutes under certain conditions, but we don't know, and neither does she. And yes, it would be "cold" and dispiriting to the team to let a much loved teammate go. And just imagine the goose bumps as a throng of thousands of cheering beaver fans rise simultaneously from their seats at the instant that she steps onto the court in a game. That alone would be worth the wait.
