With the loss of 4 seniors and Destiny, there's been a lot of questions on who on the team will make up all the lost points.
It's an early EARLY look, but here's my over/under on scoring this fall. At this point I'm mainly sticking with those I think will be solid contributors, and leaving out those that I acknowledge I have no idea about. Please tell me how wrong I am. Taylor 16 Ellie 13 Taya 10 Aleah 12 Trish 6 Sasha 7 Jasmine 7
Well, I definitely have to re-examine this. I'm over the team points per game from last season, and that's without Jelena, Savannah, and Noelle.

If OSU indeed has seven players who average 6+ points per game with four in double figures, that kind of balanced scoring bodes well for a successful season. If Jasmine and Trish can combine for 13+ points game next season, I will be pleasantly surprised.

I can see Jazz picking it up, she can shoot. Give her enough time to get comfortable in the game and they will really start falling for her.
I don't understand why Samuels is so overlooked?

"I don't understand why Samuels is so overlooked?" The practical question is who she will replace when she takes the floor? Sasha? Aleah? Taya? Whoever she replaces it will automatically make the other established scorers the most likely players to take the shots when SS is on the floor....
When the Beavs signed her she was not a top 100 player....She became so after her commitment to OSU....So, I think she is a "show me" player - at least in my mind....I can envision her getting very few minutes during her Rookie season... I hope she will be a big surprise, and achieve beyond expectations, but, at least to me, it will be a surprise if she does....
She is often described as "athletic" - this is often code for good athleticism but not strong offensive skills....Don't worry, if she was a scorer the description would read "scorer who is athletic"....When you get "athletic" you usually don't have a scorer...Not always, but enough..... GO BEAVS !!🏀

The track & field marks for Savannah Samuel in the high jump and 400m during her junior year of high school (and visible online via athletic.net) indicate that she will be the best athlete on the floor for the Beavers from Day One. Athletes who high jump 5'4" and above and run 400m in close to 60 seconds are the type that provide coaches with options defensively.
If Samuel makes her mind up to be a defensive stopper and embraces that role as her best opportunity to get on the floor early for the Beavs, I like her chances to play 10-15 minutes in a backcourt that is looking to reload next season.

Savannah shows some offensive potential here:
Definitely looks comfortable in transition as well as shooting the three and mid-range shots. Similar to Jasmine, but a little longer and potentially a better shooter. I hope Jasmine gets to show off some of her playmaking skills this season, because she was always regarded as a terrific playmaker.

I agree - I think she contributes right away. Savannah just looks like a player built for Rueck's system; patient, controlled, strong defensively, and efficient with scoring opportunities. She's another 3-4 like Taya with 3 point range and a deadly pull-up 15 footers. She'll make freshman mistakes for sure, but she doesn't appear to be much of a project in terms of being able to hold her own. She also played at a very high level for HS, which you can tell from that video. She has some impressive teammates, including a top prospect and sister to Shareef Abdur Raheem who signed with ND I believe, and Mia Moore, who will be highly sought after PG next year. So she had a ton of talent around her, and so doesn't stand out like some of the other prospects where they are clearly the class on the court (despite Samuels having 41pt game outburst, which is already something a project doesn't do), yet she's the one they go to for two clutch baskets and also clutch block late in the above game to get the W. I haven't combed the players between the two teams in the above video, but I suspect there are a handful plus of players going D1 on the floor. Edit: Looks like Knisha Godfrey is at least one player on the opponent, so another top 100 player in that video: www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/242355/knisha-godfrey

The other team, Tampa Bay Tech, has a top-5 2022 player in Janiah Barker, a 6-3 wing. Savannah appeared to guard her a lot, and held her to 9 points. Another top-100 player in 2021 Knisha Godfrey. No shortage of talent between those teams for sure.

Hopefully she has those kind of defensive impacts.

I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do for the Beavs. I definitely wouldn't count her out, despite the other strong talent the Beavs are bringing in.

Wow! What a game. Savannah looked very, very, good offensively. She hit a lot of shots, and, seemed to know the right time to pull up. Great stroke.

"What is Savannas number?"
She is # 24, it is easy to find her on the court because she has that slight "hunched back" thing going on, similar to Aleah
I wish I could find it, but in one game, I saw her take off from about mid court and streak to the basket like a sprinter, from the camera angle it looked like she took 3 fast steps and was there ! Impressive foot speed like Jaz.

Samuel is #24 in the gray uniform. If you go back to Savannas early games this year she had quite a few high scoring games. She's a better shooter then the guards coming back with the exception of Goodman from three. She still looks like she is growing. She could get bigger? The team I observed she was on didn't have team defense down. She will be a perfect Rueck disciple. She will grow with the coaching at OSU. She's built a lot like Taya. Exciting times await beaver nation.
