He will have to sit out a year (unless the transfer redshirt rule changes) and will have 2 years to play. Last year he played in 27 games and averaged 12.5 minutes a game, 2.7 ppg, 2.3 apg, 43% FG and 26.7% 3P%

Stats at Seton Hall are underwhelming, but be was a high 3* coming out of high school (204 ranking).

Does anyone look at this list and think; "How could we NOT get him?". We should be above a lot of those schools... Long Beach State? sure there are lots of reasons people go to certain schools he may want to go home (wherever that is), or maybe looking to be big fish little pond... but come on. Rhode Island is good, but certainly we have better facilities/support/budget.... and BYU? we SHOULD, as a Pac-12 team, be able to put BYU in it's place. I look at lists like this and (obviously) get frustrated.

Not really - I get much more frustrated that we are even considering offering a scholarship to someone who has averaged 2.7 points and 2.3 assists in 27 games.

I don't know if the "verified" is true for Nelson, but only one Pac12 school had an RPI above BYU and only 2 Pac12 teams had an RPI above Rhode Island. Just saying.

I’ve not seen the kid play, but Seton Hall was ranked #15 this year and in the tourney last year, so not surprising he didn’t get tons of playing time. Do you like G. Hunt? His playing time and stats are similar to his, and Nelson was higher ranked coming out of H.S. and has 2 years of eligibility left. I Sure I’d love to see Beavs in on bigger fish, but they’re not there yet. And not sure if this guy is a good pickup if they get him, but think you have to look beyond the stats.

The question is who is leaving the team? Is ET definitely definitely not coming back? Either that or someone else is leaving because if they get that transfer the scholarship limit will be above 13 again.

As mentioned before, given his father's status as an OUS employee Ethan can easily and affordably be a walkon, if the staff believes one more scholarship player will help the team.

Doesn't matter if they transferred and have to sit out a year. The only way that scenario would work is if the player delays enrollment until after the first of the year.

There's players voluntarily or injured taking a redshirt, and players who are ineligible to play who have to redshirt. Does the NCAA treat them all the same as far as roster count goes?

Scholarship still counts against the total. All sports are that way. I believe, the only way it doesn't count is if the player quits a sport due to a medical condition. Andrea Aquino counts toward the total for womens basketball because she hasn't been officially considered a "medical retirement."
