He's the 8th pick on MLB's mock draft.

A 6'5" 18 year old with those kind of numbers? Hard to see him not going in the top 2 or 3.

Sounds like an early first round draft choice doesn't it?
That is indeed our boy, McLean "Mick" Abel. Wow !
What's interesting is he has 4 quality pitches, as many as 3 are rated "+" by the scouting community. The pitch I would love to see data on is his slider. Scout's say it's the best in the country and at the HS level, an untouchable wipe-out pitch.
Numbers are dazzling, More than a few Metro League hitters were not looking forward to stepping in against him this spring.
The projections I've seen have him going in the range of 8 to 15 in the first round.
If high school arms didn't carry the element of risk they do, Mick would be picked earlier in Round 1. Mick and Jared Kelley, a 6-3, 215 pound flamethrower from Refugio, Texas are exceptional 2020 prep talents. Both are big, can locate and flirt with 100 mph on their best days. Kelley camps on 97-99 for 7 innings. Abel less but Mick has superior secondary offerings and location.
They just happen to be in a draft with an unusual number of great college arms this year which moves them back a few slots in the selections. Leftys like Asa Lacy (A&M), Reid Detmers (Louisville), Garret Crochet (Tennessee), and right handers like Emerson Hancock (Georgia), Max Meyer (Minnesota), and Cade Cavalli (Oklahoma) are all projected to be selected in the top half of the first round. Physical and mental maturity, plus experience all give the college guys a higher predictability in terms of success. With multi-million dollar bonuses at stake, reducing the element of risk is important.

Any chance OSU pulls off a miracle and gets him on campus? If UCLA and SEC schools can do it, why not the Beavs?

May depend on the money - and the next couple of years could be low ball for the Pro's ( missed income - fewer teams, minors and majors )!
