You might want to look at the complete list of transfers. KK being the extreme outlier. Uh, does the name Gary Payton 2 ring a bell? Granted he was an early commit, but he was offered a scholarship release and was re-recruited by Tinkle. It was not a given he was coming here. PS- the post I quoted mentioned Dastrup and Kelly... hence KK the outlier. But, thx was completely unaware of GPII. He played for OSU? He was a transfer? Really? And according to his Dad it was... a done deal. There was no re-recruiting by Wayne. Cling to any positive to try to justify supporting him. But, go ahead count GPII as #1, KK #2, do we drop down to popular but a 5/3 type Berger? Go thru the rest...

First, it would really be nice if seemingly every thread about a player leaving or ones on a potential HS recruit, JC transfer, grad transfer and sit-out transfer did not have to disintegrate into the same WT can’t recruit/yes he can rehash. Wishful thinking I know.
Second, transfers and such are the new norm. You don’t like it go follow high school basketball. Oh, wait they transfer at that level too. And it is only going to get worse if the no sit out rule gets passed. High school recruiting still has to be the foundation for a program, but I wouldn’t be surprised if going forward teams at the same level as the Beavs will have transfers of some kind make up about a third of their team. Not necessarily new transfers each year but players that transferred into the program at some point. It makes for a lot of uncertainty, but if a coach can navigate the new terrain well, plenty of success can be found. So far WT’s success has been spotty in that area, but hopefully as he adjusts to the new norm that success rate will go up.

Yes, Oregon State's all-time greatest blocker and Dastrup. Two peas in a pod there. But I get it. The glass is half empty. You might want to look at the complete list of transfers. KK being the extreme outlier. Sean Miller-Moore has looked good so far. Keondre Dew was talented and a good kid. If he could have just been ok on the academic side, he would have been great. Him quitting the team was a big secondary reason that 2016-17 turned into such a quagmire. And his brother, Hamilcar Rashed, is still lighting it up on the football team. It is hard to point to Dew, Kelly, and Miller-Moore and call Tinkle an incompetent. Dastrup was a good add. He just did not pan out.

I'll leave WT's level of competence to the actual numbers of successful transfers and the overall recruiting ranking over 6+ years.

Funny. When I read the article address I thought it was going to be a complaint against nepotism!

The numbers alone suggest a desperation move that was not a good add and he panned out exactly like the numbers said he would. His stars/ranking coming out of HS mean nothing. That being said, I saw nothing to suggest he was anything other than a good teammate. I hope he has found a place where he can put up lots of numbers and have a great time doing so.

He only played in three games after Tres went down before being suspended for the rest of the season. He had the most rebounds per minute and put up the second-best defensive numbers per minutes played on the team (behind Tres). Offensively, he was a work in progress, but I thought that the team played better with him out there. He was a good piece to have. His suspension turned a bad situation and made it worse.

You're right - a work in progress is 6-8 slasher type with a 26.3% who misses shots at the rim

Let's be real here - the snark is not about Dastrup. It could be any player on the roster transferring outside of Ethan, and most of us would be 'ok, good luck', with very few notable memories to thank them for. That's not on Dastrup or any other player personally, it's on the coaching staff and allowing the roster going into next season to be in this condition. But, it's only his 6th full recruiting year, hard to recruit to OSU, having coaches' sons drove away top recruits, it's the virus.Could be a team full if mid to low level JCs by next Fall and folks will still offer up excuses/support. A few more excuses :-). Go Beavers!
