Two things are obvious, Destiny wasn't happy in this program anymore and Coach Rueck's ego is partially to blame for her leaving. It's not the first person who has left because he's tough to deal with. See a certain assistant at the University of Oregon as another example. I hope this is a wake up call, your best player shouldn't be transferring away from here after their junior season. Spin it how you want but she didn't leave to try and bolster her WNBA status.

My gut tells me it has less to do with Scott’s ego and more to do with picking a place that had a style of play that might showcase her WNBA skills a bit more.

I don't begrudge your opinion at all and it may be 100% accurate. One things is for sure. We have a ton of passion for our woman's hoops program. But if we eliminate the option that you are Destiny (I know you aren't). I take a more nuanced look. More of a two sides to every story... In that vein, here's some things I'm considering: 1- Destiny is kind of a wanderer...committed to 4 schools in total now. And she's back to the coach she originally committed to at UW. This isn't meant to be a negative at all, just a fact proven by evidence. 2- She may or may not be our best returning player. Best returning guard? Sure. 3- Coach can be difficult to deal with. Maybe a little Napoleon complex going on? This seems to be the case. It must be hard to be a 5' 5" man looking up at pretty much everyone including 99% of your players. 4- The assistant coach that left is making more $ at UO. Could that have been the reason he left? I agree that I hope this is a learning lesson for all involved. That seems to be a common point in this thread and ties back to the passion we all have for the program.

I think that she looks at Arkansas and the exHusky coach and says ‘ I can be the next Kelsey Plum’! I discount any other rationale or reasoning as more speculative.

You look at the turnover that every other program has and you think Rueck has ego problems? Must mean every other coach in college basketball is rabid. Rueck says he likes to be a teacher. One of the marks of a good teacher is that they keep learning from their students. Syd tells the story of going in to tell Rueck she wanted to leave and going away determined to give it another try. Lets hope that Rueck learned his Destiny lesson. He seems like a pretty good teacher, and I think he did.

Why do people think it's Rueck's fault that Destiny left. She committed to 4 schools in five years.

Is it not time to move this thread about Arkansas' new point guard over to the Rotating Tap board?
I didn't want her to go but she's gone.

Maybe that's part of her thought process, but the answer is a resounding no to that. She just isn't the scorer and shot maker that Plum was. Thru 3 seasons she's scored barely more than Kelsey scored during her Sr. year alone.

Is it not time to move this thread about Arkansas' new point guard over to the Rotating Tap board? I didn't want her to go but she's gone. This is your second request to move this thread, but it's staying here. Destiny spent 3 years in Corvallis and will always be a Beaver. Chad Johnson spent 3 months in Corvallis and will always be a Beaver. Usually, if the subject is a current or former Beaver, the thread belongs on the appropriate Benny's House forum.* *tick, tick, tick until someone provides an exception

And the answer to that is that she would now be in the hands of a coach that wants another Plum and Destiny wants to be in that type of offense to help her draft value !

Lets hope that Rueck learned his Destiny lesson. He seems like a pretty good teacher, and I think he did. I was not aware that Syd was considering transfering from OSU. Did she elaborate as to why? Was she homesick? Glad that she stayed all four years to bring three PAC-12 regular season titles to Corvallis. Rueck has repeatedly noted that one of his biggest roles is as a teacher. I am confident that he will learn from his experience this past season and become a better communicator with his players as a result. He has a lot of time on his hands to reach out to his players during this virus crisis. He has reportedly done so and with good results thus far. Let's continue to hope that all of the potential returnees opt to come back in '20-'21 and get the team back to the Sweet Sixteen (or better) once again. If I was a varsity athlete, I really would not want to change horses during the pandemic unless it was necessary.

Syd didn't really say other than general feelings of frustration and not being on the same page as to what she was supposed to be doing.
