Oregon State reached into the Texas JC ranks to add another Pitcher to the staff for the 2021 season. Bryant Salgado is a 6-1, 196 RHP out of Houston's Klein Forest HS who has pitched at national powerhouse, San Jacinto CC during the 2019 and abbreviated 2020 seasons. San Jacinto has been a national championship finalist 11 times, winning 5 national titles. In Salgado's freshman year of 2019, the Gators were 52-15 and reached the NJCAA semi-finals in Grand Junction, Colorado. In 2020, they started 8-5 before the season was cancelled by the Pandemic. An excellent shortstop and pitcher at Klein Forest, Bryant concentrated on pitching at San Jacinto CC.
During his freshman year at SJCC, Salgado was used primarily in a closing role. He appeared in 21 games, pitched 29 1/3 innings, striking out 46 and walking 15 with 2 HBP. His ERA was 3.68 with 4 saves and a 4-2 record. Bryant throws aspirin tablets, he has a lively 94 mph fastball and touched 95 several times in late February on a Louisiana road trip. His secondary pitches are a hard slider at 80-82 mph and a curve ball at 75-76 mph.
Bryant was drafted in 2019 in the 34th round by the Padres. He's ranked #29 on the Perfect Game's national JC Top-100 list.
He played for Coach Tom Arrington, a former Montreal Expo pitcher and NJCAA Hall of Fame inductee who has a 742-298 record in 19 years at San Jacinto. He's well coached in a strong program, SJCC has had 18 players drafted in the last 5 drafts. Because of the new NCAA eligibility rules, Oregon State can apply for a waiver from San Jacinto CC and Salgado would then enter OSU as a Sophomore with 3 years to play.

Are you sure about those numbers? 115 walks in 29+ innings?

Interesting that the Beavers also add Chase Watkins (twitter). There is going to be a crowd of players for Fall ball. Watkins went from Cal Poly to College of Central Florida to the Beavers with a summer stint for the Corvallis Knights. Anxious to see how Chinmusic analyzes this addition. www.cfpatriots.net/sports/bsb/2019-20/bios/watkins_chase_gfoo

I'm not very good at analysis but I do have a new Dart Board and my trusty old Ouji Board.
I'm not familiar with Watkins at all - never heard of the guy prior to the commit. I'm very familiar with Watsonville and know a little about St. Francis HS there. A small school with a decent athletic program.
If Oregon State returned all of it's 2020 staff plus the incoming freshman pitchers (including Mick Abel), I believe we would have 21 pitchers on the fall roster. Realistically, we may lose 2 or 3 to Pro ball and I'm not sure if Mully comes back or Verburg can pitch. That would leave us with about 16-17 before the addition of Salgado and Watkins.
Just a guess but I'd say we may have a few more not returning that we presently don't know about. It's logical these two new guys are not additions but rather replacements. We could be filling some holes.
