Cleared up what happened to Dastrup........academic issues. Liked his enthusiasm from the bench.

It will be curious to see if recruiting changes a bit due to no more Stevie or Tres and Ethan having 1 year at most left.
I'd bet a lot of "top" recruits have enough ego that going to a team with so many coaches kids would give them pause. There's probably a bunch of kids that go in imagining they'll be THE guy the moment they step on campus, and having to face a situation with coaches' kids starting ahead of them for a couple of seasons might give them a reason enough to look elsewhere.

Wait... - So there was a sudden guaranteed NIT berth given after beating UT? - And, now the coaches kids were a recruiting liability that kept recruits away?? Really So... obviously this season counts as a postseason team and recruiting will take a sudden upswing without Tres(?) vs the currently low ranking of 10th in the Pac12 with the low 3* and 2* JC??

Really So... obviously this season counts as a postseason team and recruiting with take a sudden upswing vs the low 3* and a 2* JC ranking 10th in the Pac12?? Well, we at least have the HC admitting that the presence of so many coaches' kids was not necessarily good in the recruiting space.......so one might imagine it also had effects on the team chemistry, practice, etc etc? If you are a (coach) Tinkle fan, this is the article to read. I share your somewhat more jaundiced view of this article's analysis of the abbreviated post-season and our prospects. Just like last year, we had close to three strikes against us: our OOC schedule, our OOC performance, and the perceived strength of the conference (which in turn called in question the conference record and standing). But since we will never know what might have been, this narrative can't really be challenged...... I just hope all the misgivings I have about our head coach's coaching acumen are completely misplaced and WT continues the "up and to the right" trajectory this article lays claim to if/when things return to "normal". Go Beavers!

It is surprising that WT would assert that they were assured of an NIT bid. Though I think there was a good chance they would be invited, it was by far a sure thing. But it is the comments on recruiting that are troubling.
Top players want to play with top players. Tres, Stevie, and Ethan were all pretty highly ranked. So why didn’t other top players want to play with them? Because their fathers’ were the coaches? That in and of itself may cause some problems, but that WT couldn’t get players to see beyond that shows something lacking in his recruiting ability. All the minutes those players got and lack of development of other players certainly didn’t help. And then WT wants people to believe that his lack of recruiting ability is because of the three sons, and them being gone will lead to better recruiting results. I hope he is right. And if he’s not I look forward to his next excuses and who will be to blame.

That the coaches kids hurt recruiting sounds like an excuse to help buy him more time. As others have said players want to play with other good players. We will see if recruiting now magically picks up. I am not holding my breath...

Did they ever decide on Winter eligibility relief? It would absolutely amazing to see the NCAA give an extra year to winter sport athletes. The regular season was completed. Yes, athletes were denied the ability to compete in the tournaments but all of the athletes completed an entire regular season. The NCAA wouldn't give KT another year after she played in the amount of games she did last season. It would be a miracle if the NCAA granted another year to winter athletes.

Landing Nate Bittle would be a good start for recruiting....

Landing Nate Bittle would be a good start for recruiting.... After the State tourney game talking to Crater folks... not asshat Dad... he has zero interest in OSU. Leader so far is ucks, then Zags. Hoping Duke comes around. Most think it is 100% ucks. But he's a huge Duke fan. Also Cronin was talking to him from the start while at UCinn and now since he's at UCLA he could be in the hunt?

Ben Gregg is probably the most realistic highly-rated recruit that could end up coming to OSU. I agree that I don't think I've seen one indication from anywhere that Bittle has any interest in OSU at all. Hopefully Duke does come around and he gets his wish

I do think there's merit in the coach's kid issue. It seemed to dog Alford at UCLA as well - not with recruiting so much, but with chemistry (at least the fans sure seemed to believe so).
Every kid has played on a team at some point where they were playing on a team with the coach's kid, and it often isn't handled real well at the lower levels. That bad taste can impact recruiting, regardless of it having any relevance to the situation at OSU. In any case, it doesn't matter now, unless they are going to go find a new assistant with an eligible kid - so time to just get it done.

Hey, Ralph Miller had to make a big deal about Paul Miller not being his kid for recruiting...
Just kidding, but it actually was brought up quite often at the time, so maybe??

Whatever he's doing he hasn't made some wise decisions lately with his public comments.
