This is an update from a post a little more than two weeks ago.
Oregon State is currently ranked 68th in the NET rankings, eighth in the Pac-12 (2/10 Net rankings in parentheses):
7. Arizona (10) 17. Colorado (16) 20. Oregon (25) 29. Stanford (30) 43. Arizona State (54) 47. Southern California (47) 63. Washington (60) 68. Oregon State (67) 78. UCLA (99) 88. Utah (70) 120. Washington State (126) 142. California (151)
Today, DRatings put out its projections:
12. Oregon (3-seed) 20. Colorado (5-seed) 23. Arizona (6-seed) 35. Arizona State (9-seed) 45. Stanford (11-seed, 3rd-to-last team in)
50. USC (Third team out. NIT 1-seed) 56. UCLA (NIT 3-seed) 68. Oregon State (NIT 6-seed)
Using an S-curve on the DRatings projection, Oregon State would play at Notre Dame in the Richmond bracket. The winner of the Oregon State-Notre Dame game would play the winner of San Francisco-Memphis.
Washington needs to go at least 3-0 to finish the season or 2-1 and net at least a semifinal berth, in order to net a NIT berth, because of their weak conference record. At this point, Oregon State is de facto seventh or eighth (depending on how you rank UCLA) in line for a postseason berth in the Pac-12.
If Oregon State can win 3 of the next 5 (or 3 of 4 or 4 of 7), the Beavers should net an NIT berth.
If Oregon State can go 3-0 to finish the season and make the Pac-12 Championship Game, the Beavers probably net a Tournament berth. Short of that a berth is unlikely, unless Oregon State wins the conference.
That makes tonight's game a big one.

I'm guessing the 2/28 version does not look so good. :-(

Looks like Beavers' NET dropped to 72. DRatings haven't been updated I don't believe. Win over Stanford next week would help the NET, and a loss to Cal would really hurt the NET. I have no idea if they still have a shot at NIT. I'd like to see them get it so Tres can play in another tournament.

Well that makes me want to see him get to play in one even more.

TT deserves it... been thru a lot since he's arrived, and not just injuries. But, not sure I could take a well coached, over .500 mid-major taking it to OSU!? And, with our record and MBB attendance I don't see a seed where we host. Which seems to be automatic for below 40% shooting and a loss.

A NET in the low 70s is a probably a minimum for a team with Oregon State's resume. A NET of 75+ probably sees the Beavers stay at home. If Oregon State can get into the low 60s, the Beavers probably get to host at least the first round NIT game.

I do not think we are tournament worthy. Guess there are a lot of bad teams out there of which we are one. Tres plays like his ankle is not right. He just is not the same player. Also I see no future with what we have recruited so far.

Also I see no future with what we have recruited so far. Pac-12 looks like it could be a six-bid conference. Washington is likely staying home, because of a putrid conference record. Oregon State and UCLA are in the probable NIT range. Last year, San Diego was probably the last team in. The Toreros finished seventh in the West Coast Conference with a losing record and a slap-in-Oregon-State's-face NET of 97. The Beavers (Pac-12 #4), who finished with a NET of 87 100% should have received an invite over San Diego. And the Toreros lost the opener by 14 points. Ridiculous. Wichita State, which finished sixth in the American Athletic Conference, also got an invite over Pac-12 #4 Oregon State. The Shockers took the invite and rode it all the way to NYC. Ridiculous. This year, despite doing well worse in the Pac-12, the strength of the Pac-12 is inflating Oregon State's numbers. The Beavers deserved to be an NIT invite last year. This year, with a better NET, they definitely should be. Oregon State not getting invited last year is coloring people's perceptions, enabling dopey arguments to promulgate.

Next year on paper we will be worse and most likely picked near the bottom of the conference. So by bringing WT back next year we are simply delaying the inevitable. Maybe it is worth it to the AD to save money on the buy out. For me it just reemphasizes what many of us already know, that is that men's basketball is not a priority at OSU.
