So, we either open vs Cal or WSU and win in either spot is still a 2nd round matchup vs Zona or UCLA. Not sure one is better than the other?!

Today was insane.
UCLA couldn't miss against OSU, they couldn't hit anything today. 31% shooting overall and 5-26 behind the arc. Onyenwere was 3-13, Dean 4-16 and Osborne 8-18.

For seeding in the NCAA tournament, important that the Beavs win the next 2 and then at least 2 in Vegas. I'd rather be the 5 seed playing 12 and then 4 rather than 6 playing 11 and 3.

[ If you want to get to the final, the 6th seed is best because it avoids Oregon until the final.

Back to back really rough games for Onyenwere. I'm surprised she isn't a more efficient scorer (48%) given her physical tools and skill set. 4-24 against the Washington schools.

One of the things some forget is that she's undersized @ 6' playing mainly vs much bigger players. And, unlike Pili she's not a big body. Take away her 30% shooting from 3, she's closer to 53%... and 82% from the line. Weird thing she's basically Mik, the player... 5'11"/6', active, 14.4/6.9 over her 1st three years and counting... but hyped as much more.

It seems Mik gets the cursory "fill up the stat sheet" John Havlicek (he was a huge fav as a kid), great citizen hype. Zero wrong with that. But, Onyenwere gets the incredible basketball athlete, carries her team, etc. When her stats aren't that over the top. Anyway... both get their due.

Onyenwere's problem is that she is basically the Uclan's post. They have a couple of taller players but they don't play. Horvat is 6'1" and helps out but she gets in foul trouble a lot and only averages about 20 minutes.

I think that fans often have difficulty understanding how difficult it is to shoot 48+% from the field when opposing teams are trying to stop you as your team's #1 scoring option. Onyenwere has to create most of her own shots and jump over taller players. There aren't that that many top scorers in WBB that shoot 48+% from the field, regardless of height.
The last time I checked Onyenwere was averaging 19.4 points per game on 47.9% shooting from the field. She was #19 in D1 in scoring. I haven't cross referenced all of the scorers ahead of Onyenwere on the national list, but would speculate that very few of the top 18 scorers in D1 shoot 48% or higher from the field. Leading scorers such as Howard, Carter, Johnson, McDonald, and others that I checked are below 47% and some are well below that mark. Most are volume shooters with a green light.
Some posters here have complained about the number of shots that Slocum takes. However, Slocum is shooting 46.4% from the field. That is a very respectable percentage for a guard.

Horvat is 6'1" and helps out but she gets in foul trouble a lot and only averages about 20 minutes. Lauren Miller at 6'1" plays the center position for UCLA. Onyenwere really plays the 3 and guards the opposing team's best scorer regularly. Onyenwere simply has the physical tools to jump over taller players in the paint. Check out her 100m and 200m high school times on athletic.net to gain an appreciation of how good of an athlete she is.

bhf - - I like the way you handle your WBB research. You set a good example for the rest of us....
One thing you could have mentioned (in addition to Onyenwere's exceptional athleticism) is that she has pretty much mastered her step back jumper, and her fadeaway (drift) jumper.... This allows her to score in the 12 foot radius against almost anyone in college ball.....
Not a single Beavers has mastered the fadeaway jumper that Onyenware executes every game....Destiny has a very nice step back jumper - but no one on the current roster has the offensive skill set of Onyenwere.... No knock on the Beavs, just a reminder of the remarkable offensive repertoire Onyenwere possesses.... GO BEAVS !!

I'm not sure that there is anyone in the country who can get their jumper off in and around the paint as seemingly easy as Onyenwere. She creates separation unlike anyone else I have seen when she pivots and jumps over defenders.
