The good thing about OSU's facilities is that the are improving, however OSU is not the only school spending money on facilities.
No matter how much OSU invests (assuming we don't have a multi-billionaire sugar daddy) others can top it in the following years and shortly our facilities are potentially at or near the bottom again.

Aren't other coaches only seeing the visitors locker room? How would the know about the actual facilities? Classic message board stuff here. “Please cite your sources.” *cites sources* “Oh well those sources don’t count, plus they are only close to what you said, they aren’t verbatim.”

I thought the same thing as spud. Our practice facilities, training room, meeting room, and weight room are pretty sweet, and that is where players would spend 90% of their b-ball time, so probably most important. Other coaches have spent zero to little time in those places, so I put little stock in their evaluation. That said, I have not been in the other schools’ facilities, so maybe we really are 10th. If so, I can’t imagine what the others have that are so much better. Maybe the delta is small. Regardless, it would behoove us to rank high in facilities for recruits, players, and any coaches we are trying to lure in.

Unless one has personally recently toured most of the league’s basketball facilities I find it odd they’d question the coaches’ opinion. There’s no real knowing if the coaches have personally toured the facilities or not without knowing the coaches personally, but it behooves any business to have a pretty good idea of what the competition is doing. I’d also bet just about any AD in the league would be happy to show off their facilities to their colleagues, and all have a pretty good idea of what each other has.

You put little stock in the coaches evaluations, who travel to these facilities every year, play in the gyms, probably do shootarounds in the practice facilities on weekends like this past one when Gill was so busy.......but you've never been to the other school's facilities yourself? WHO's word would you take then? A reporter that hasn't picked up an actual basketball in 30 years? Some message board guy like baseba1111 who claims to have been in the huddle of every team in the conference (or knows someone who was)? This is exactly what I'm talking about. There's probably nobody MORE qualified to vote on these things than the coaches of other teams in the conference, and we discredit their opinion because we don't like it. I know I'm 100% biased, but I'm guessing if Gill was sold out every night and the place was a literal nightmare for opposing coaches, our facilities would rank higher on the list.

Geez, I didn't know folks would be so incensed by my caustic opinion. Looking back, it sure was filled with accusatory vitriol!
Me: Aren't other coaches only seeing the visitors locker room? How would the(y) know about the actual facilities? Response: Classic message board stuff here.
“Please cite your sources.”
*cites sources*
“Oh well those sources don’t count, plus they are only close to what you said, they aren’t verbatim.”
What sources should I have when asking a question?
Response: I can't prove it, but would think they all are quite well aware of each other's facilities, several probably have toured most or all of them at some point. I don't think there's any big secret about the facilities at any rate.
Me: Maybe. I still think it’s a good question. We have a brand new practice facility, upgraded weight room, and a remodeled Gill. I don’t buy that it’s that bad. But I’m old, just ask The Mitten.
People seem a bit touchy around here lately. Maybe it's Seasonal Affective Disorder.

You spout off on others viewpoints just as you claim others are full of s%#t. Hmmmm... I wonder if those fully qualified have any reason, any reason at all... like recruiting maybe to be bias against other school's facilities. Especially if you are a team finishing well below a school... like maybe OSU's WBB. BUT... of course this survey only refelects MBB if you actually read through the brief reviews you could tell. If your highness actual cares to know any fact before spouting their high and mighty opinion maybe make time to actually look the so called survey!? You experts are a "HANDFUL" of veteran coaches from the Pac12... current? Former? both? And, many of the comments come from assistants, so it's not even all HCs. And, because said polls are not official and typical space filler I'm betting you get no coach stating publicly they ever saw such a survey or will admit to publicly degrading an opponent. Or could be like most other BS pieces by Jeff Goodman types, who never have physically talked to any of these coaches. Info/polls that aren't even seen by the HC and filled out by the assistant or staffer. Who knows? who cares? It's meaningless, highly speculative fluff. At any rate, there is an entire other set of coaches on the women's side that were not asked. Beings MBB at OSU has been in the bottom for 25 years I would say the overall ranking is somewhat influenced by history not actual facilities. And... as far as facilities go... and your complete "inside the huddle" BS... I do travel to away games. I make it a point to visit all the facilities I can at every Pac12 school. And, I can tell you for a fact OSU is not 10th in basketball facilities.... IMHO. And, OSU will never be in the top 5 in facilities for any major sport, so being 6/7/8 is in the top 3 of where OSU can afford to be. Whatever it is, your "stock" is no better than anyone else's here... yet you seem to think differently on a daily basis.

This is exactly what you are talking about, but you are wrong. I’m simply surprised by the result and offering an opinion that would explain it. No coaches have been discredited in the writing of my post. Their evaluation criteria is being questioned though. Why are you so offended by that? It’s a reasonable discussion and you just want to shut it down. It would have been much cooler, at least for me, if this discussion went towards, “oh, you think our facilities are sweet, look at these <photo>, <photo>, <photo>, hate to say it, but yeah, we’re 10th.” To answer your question, I like drunks suggestion that ADs are better qualified. Recruits would be better qualified. A quality reporter doing a piece on the subject would be better qualified. I just doubt Altman has spent much time in our practice facility, weight room, training room, or meeting room. Nor do I think he would offer an objective opinion on the matter.

I guess programs have to try to keep up, but at this point the facilities argument is silly. It's a whose mansion is better argument at this point.

Arizona, Oregon, and UCLA. Seems like you'd try to be pumping up facilities at Wazzu and OSU, schools that you know most high level recruits aren't looking at. Love your show, I'll take your answer off the air.
