One trip to the tournament in six years. We're wallowing in mediocrity. If you're fine with that, then let's give WT a lifetime contract, because we're going to be consistently mediocre from here on out. But if that bothers you even just a little bit, then it's time to move on. This Zebra isn't going to change his stripes any time soon. Mediocrity > 20+ years of downright turrible that preceded Tinkle. 1 trip to the Tournament in six years > 0 trips to the Tournament the preceding 20+ years. This is a circa 2013 Riley Redux. Oregon State is 10th or 11th in facilities and spending on the basketball program, and all the coach can do is finish middle of the conference? Let's fire him! Addition by subtraction! A sure path to success. Phase 1 Phase 2 Phase 3Fire Tinkle ? SuccessUnderwear gnomes are more cogent than most of the fire Tinkle crowd on here. Meh. Oregon State just won its third straight game against Oregon, a feat that no coach has managed since 1993 and a feat that no coach has managed so convincingly since Ralph Miller himself. And yet, I keep seeing a lot of Debbie Downer doom and gloom nonsense. At least wait until Oregon State loses another game to start talking about how disappointing Tinkle is......

This season isn't over. 2nd, even Baseba111 said last year the team should have been a NIT tournament team considering the performance. By this season's end it could be that this team deserved 3 spots in a tournament in 6 years. Compared to where we've been, that's huge.

What I said, or meant, is that postseason play shouldn't be the key factor as the invites aren't in the control of set criteria. Just as last year's team seemingly had the criteria to get a NIT invite according to past years. But, in the same light the tourney team wouldn't have been dancing any season after that! It's why my personal discussion of WT doesn't involve only postseason invites as it truly isn't a consistent metric. What's missing from the MBB is much deeper than the outcomes shown by postseason play. When those are solved the postseason invites will become more regular.

By this season's end it could be that this team deserved 3 spots in a tournament in 6 years. Compared to where we've been, that's huge. I think everyone on this board knows that NET (and previously RPI) as it pertains to individual teams and conferences is an important part of choosing at large teams for both tournaments. I believe the Beavers's NET last year was lower than any of the teams from the major conferences that got into the NIT. Georgetown (82) and Wichita St. (83) had higher NET than the 87 posted by the Beavs. And their conference NET rankings were higher than the Pac 12's. So saying they should have been an NIT tournament team is inaccurate. Maybe in a different year or if they expanded the NIT field, but it is fairly easy to see that they were likely one of the first four out last year. Strangely, they actually have a better chance of making the NIT this year if they can finish strong. Pac 12 has a much higher conference NET ranking than last year and currently the Beavs have a higher NET (66) than they had last year. The Pac 12 rank is #4, which is the same as the Big East's was last year. And last year Providence got into the NIT with a 7-11 conference record and a NET of 70 -- as did Georgetown with a .500 conference record and the fore mentioned 82 NET. I'm not saying I agree with the importance placed on NET in choosing tournament bids, but it is what it is. If the Beavs can protect their home court the rest of the way and finish with an 8-10 record, they have a shot. Probably need some help too because I think they have to pass at least two teams in standings and very possibly 3. The good news is that of the 4 teams above them in standings, the Beavs play three -- Utah, Stanford and Cal -- all at home. WSU looks to have a killer remaining schedule -- 5 road games against WA, the 2 Arizona and 2 S. Cal teams. Utah also only has 2 home games left out of their last 7 games. Cal and Stanford each have 8 games remaining -- 4 on the road and 4 at home. Good thing is included in their home games are Colorado and the two Arizona schools. All of this is moot unless the Beavs start winning. A sweep this week would go a long way toward possibly securing an NIT bid. Go Beavs.

I go back and forth on Tinkle as coach. Certainly mediocrity is better than what we had before, but I think what concerns me the most about Tinkle is the lack of progress and development. Each year, the team seems like it's starting over again.
But to be honest, I don't watch Beaver Basketball like I used to. The inconsistency is a big reason I can't get drawn into the game. Winning when we should lose signals that we ought to be playing high quality ball. Losing when we shouldn't suggests that we suck. And not just losing but being dominated. It's hard to root for a team that underperforms.

Aren't other coaches only seeing the visitors locker room? How would the know about the actual facilities?

Aren't other coaches only seeing the visitors locker room? How would the know about the actual facilities? I can't prove it, but would think they all are quite well aware of each other's facilities, several probably have toured most or all of them at some point. I don't think there's any big secret about the facilities at any rate.

I don’t buy that it’s that bad. But I’m old, just ask The Mitten.
