All good thoughts. We are to slow on offense.,The Teams like U conn and u of o and UCLA play faster. To me it is easier to recruit to an aggressive system than to our system.?we could speed it up and play more people. I doubt we will though.,That is the difference in style and results.,Could throw Vaylor and Notre Dale in their as well. OSU's ball movement has been methodical throughout Coach Rueck's tenure. The continuing success for the program has been based upon execution of the offense to obtain high quality shots for its shooters, a healthy rebounding margin, and limiting the opposing offenses to a low FG %. It would be difficult to change horses in midstream now, but the team must execute the offense more precisely and shoot better in order to win games against quality opponents. I would likewise like to see OSU play faster and move the ball more crisply around the perimeter to force the defensive players to have to move. I think it is easier for opposing defenses to guard OSU because many of our offensive plays seem to be simply having a point guard dribble for extended periods trying to get around a hedge while the other Beavs are screening to free a teammate for a three-point shot. I know that it is more complex than that, but often the OSU offense seems to be a two-person game (a point guard and a post) with two other players wedged in the respective corners for spacing purposes. Not that SR doesn't, but he'll need to begin adjusting. Like the men's game 15-20 years ago, the women's game and players have/are changing. OSU and staff have been at OSU for 10 season now. There are only so many variations of structured plays that can be run over the course of an entire game. Set plays and reads are becoming less and less effective vs teams that have seen SR teams over the course of multiple seasons. Structure is not bad... the elite level in which some OSU teams ran their offense, especially setting screens, was incredible. But, it has diminished some over the last couple seasons. Simplistically speaking... Destiny is the first really "new age" player in SR's system. She is more free wheeling, one on one, draw and kick type. I think Jaz can fit that style... so can Taya and Aleah... and both Frosh can run the court. It is possible that the transition is beginning, but a struggle as SR is very much the "call a play" coach over letting teams freelance and read. SR will run the style he feels most comfortable with. He'll recruit accordingly. BUT, as I've professed while coaching and when talking of other coaches. The longer you at one place the more you'll need to adapt and tweak your style. After 10 years I'm sure there have been subtle changes, but I see OSU needing to "upgrade" some in what they do on offense, and maybe recruit some long, athletic wings/guard that can get out and pressure at every position to create some turnovers and easy hoops. The best way to create tempo is on the defensive end... misses and turnovers.

I agree wholeheartedly with the post above by baseba1111. With two talented frosh bigs who are learning the nuances of screening and banging in the paint, the precision of previous season's offensive execution is not there as yet with this season's squad. In addition, opposing defenses are effectively jumping our screens because their scouting reports have seen our schemes for quite some time.
Coaching is all about adapting and making tweaks to established sets, both prior to and during games. I am certain that Coach Rueck and his staff are putting in plenty of hours to try to determine how to best attack Colorado tomorrow. Would love to see the team execute and shoot well to earn a win in Boulder.

Rueck is a great coach. He's at a recruiting disadvantage (in my opinion...OK?), and he's still bringing great talent to Corvallis. He's a national champion coach, and I believe he can do it here. That's my HOPE, and it's why I HAVE hope.

Interesting that Destiny used to be called a ball hog on this board and now she is a thoroughbred.
In the beginning of SR's tenure at OSU he did not have the players (athlete's) that other teams had. So he had to develop a playing style that he hoped would even the game for his team. A slower, patient offense, and a slower, patient defense that would enable his team to compete based on preparation rather than athletic ability. He then managed to recruit the players to bring that style to fruition. This year and last year a key injury has messed up the team from being able to compete at the highest levels. But if the freshmen keep improving and Aleah/Kat keep getting back to form. This could turn out to be a very good year indeed.

What gives me hope is that we have a great group of juniors/seniors. And, I'm hopeful that Coach Rueck will continue to develop Jas Simmons and give her more minutes such that Jas can contribute in playoff games. Lastly, I hope Coaches keep working with Kennedy to take/make the mid-range shots so defenders don't sag off of Kennedy. After watching the recorded Duck vs Beavers game @ Gill last night on PAC-12 (I was at the game too), if Kennedy could have made a few more shots, there is no way Ducks get as many defensive rebounds, even on Kennedy's missed shots. We need Kennedy to be a threat to make the mid-range shots.
