Arizona thumped U. Texas at Texas by about 20 (80 - 56 with 20 seconds remaining.)
A. McDonald went off for 44 against the Longhorns....Looks like things are brewing' in Tucson this year.... GO BEAVS !!

Sunday - 5:50
Gonzaga leads Stanford at the half 31 - 28.... Gonzaga looks like Gonzaga but Stanford does not look like Stanford....Game shown live on Stanford Live Stream...
Gonzaga playing undersized against bigger, taller Cards....Like Miss. State today the Zags play good defence, move the ball well, scrap and fight.....
Zags have a guard name Kaylie Troung who looks very good....Having an impressive 1st half.....
My guess is that Stanford will get their act together in the 2nd half....You might remember that the Zags beat Stanford last year.... GO BEAVS !!

This has been one strange game. Stanford does not look good at all. Tied at 62, 5 seconds left, Gonzaga will be inbounding at halfcourt.
edit--overtime

Agree about Stanford - they look very disjointed....playing a LOT of players and subbing on almost every whistle....It's overtime as Zags miss last shot in regulation....

Stanford wins in overtime....Lexi Hull takes over in the last 90 seconds....
Gonzaga looks very good to me...Efficient...Very well coached...Tight defence....Run efficient, speedy offensive sets utilizing all 5 players quite well.... Lisa Fortier a fine coach..... Stanford looked discombobulated, and I-don't-know-what-I'm-doing-here much of the time tonight....But they have talent. Lots of it..... GO BEAVS !!

Gonzaga is for real. They are far better than their #23 ranking. I remember how tough they were last year in Gill. They look better this year. I'm glad we are not playing them any time soon.

As I mentioned the last time we discussed this topic: Zags vs OSU would make a great non conference match up...Especially if it were an annual event. From a practical point of view, the Zags have more to gain from this kind of arrangement....But it would be great sports excitement for us fans....
Gonzaga has no "true" Blue Chip players, but they have several who are just a cut below.....With a bit more talent they'd be a Top 10 team. At least that's how I see it.... GO BEAVS !!

Up until last year, when Sabrina and supporting cast filled many seats, Gonzaga had, for years, the highest average home attendance in the western states. It would be a great rivalry.

Where would you place the Zags this year if they were in the Pac-12 (Pac-13)?

Where would you place the Zags this year if they were in the Pac-12 (Pac-13)? With how they played Stanford, top 5.

The Zags are very well coached, they have good team speed, they work hard, and they have about 5 players on their roster who are really good, but not great players...
I don't know who on the Zags team could crack the starting lineup at Oregon, OSU, Stanford or UCLA.......But they have several who would be 6th players..... Their team, as a whole, is greater than the sum of its parts and that is a testament to the many positive features of their basketball program....
The Beavs were fortunate to defeat them last year in the 1st round of the NCAAs (in Corvallis)....They played without 2 of their top 4 scorers in that game and never missed a beat....
But, there are many well coached teams with great programs in the Pac-12, and I'm not sure how well this year's version of the Zags would do in the Win-Loss column over a demanding 18 (or so) game schedule... Right now Gonzaga needs 2 All-Star calibre players to be considered a top 4 team in the Pac.....And they don't have them.....
Based on what I've seen from the Pac this year I'd place the Zags at 5th or 6th.....
Bottom line: well coached, hard working - but lacking in star quality. GO BEAVS !!
