AND will that candidate prioritize finishing Reser and funding the football program sufficiently to be the public face of the university?
surely there is somebody here with more information about the pres selection than i currently have, which is zippo.

It's the head of Willamette University. Book it willamette.edu/about/leadership/president/thorsett/index.htmlHis academic record looks stellar. But - Willamette, UCSC, Princeton, CalTech, Carleton. None of those institutions on his resume are power-5 college athletics programs. So he would have zero experience integrating those program needs with the academic mission of a large state institution like OSU. That might be a potential concern. On the other hand, he is a South Salem Saxon.

He's not going to boldly lead Oregon State anywhere, based on his awkard passages from Ivory Tower to Ivory Tower. Who is deciding this? He has no connection to Oregon State. If the goal is to hire outside of the box at least get someone who at least has some real world private sector experience.

Other people are reaching - just thought I'd toss it in. It's like the member of Iron Maiden who has a 4 engine jet airliner certification now, and flew his band on a world tour recently. This guy might have some versatility, and not be the second coming of our 1970's administration that tried to destroy sports at OSU.

If so, after reading his bio we certainly could do a lot worse.
Strong science background. No experience at a land-grant university is concerning, but not overly so. And he's an Oregonian.
